Emmerdale's Matty Barton fears he could be heading to jail next week, as he faces false allegations from a village newcomer.

The ITV soap is lining up a dangerous showdown between Matty and new character Josh, who's played by former Waterloo Road star Osian Morgan.

Josh is introduced next week as a new friend for Samson Dingle. Samson's stepmum Lydia is concerned when she finds out that he's planning to travel around Europe by car with Josh.

Fearing it's not a good idea, Lydia secretly hopes that Samson will fail his driving test. She also keeps her fingers crossed that his new secondhand car ? which Sam recently gave to him ? will be deemed unroadworthy.

Sadly for Lydia, Cain Dingle gives the vehicle an official seal of approval and Samson later passes his driving test. When Lydia's congratulations seem half-hearted, Samson is annoyed that she can't be happy for him.

Later, Samson and Josh head to The Hide to celebrate. Josh takes an immediate interest in the newly married Amy Barton and refuses to take no for an answer when she rejects him.

Amy ends up leaving work early to escape Josh's inappropriate behaviour.

Josh turns even nastier when he discovers that Amy's husband Matty is trans. Matty tries to give Josh some home truths about his behaviour, but he responds by cruelly deadnaming Matty.

Things come to a head when Josh starts threatening Matty, ordering him to give up the money from The Hide's till.

As Matty defends himself and the standoff escalates, Josh shoves Samson into Matty.

Samson is accidentally stabbed by the knife that Matty was holding, and he starts bleeding out.

Josh wrongly accuses Matty of coming at them both with the weapon, which leaves the young waiter facing an uncertain future, as the narrative starts to turn against him.

What will the consequences be for Matty?

Emmerdale newcomer Rose Jackson fears her scheming could be under threat next week as she receives her final warning at Home Farm.

The ITV soap has just revealed that Rose has been planted in the village by Ruby Fox-Miligan, who's working on a secret masterplan to destroy Kim Tate.

Rose is living at Home Farm and reporting back to Ruby as part of the ruthless scheme, although she already has doubts about betraying her daughter Dawn Fletcher.

Next week, Dawn becomes overwhelmed with exhaustion at the hospital, as her baby son Evan continues to receive treatment for his leukaemia.

When Dawn learns that Evan's temperature is up following his chemotherapy, she quizzes her husband Billy about whether germs from their other kids could have been transferred to him.

Billy ends up breaking down in front of Dawn's father Will, recognising that it may be impossible to protect Evan from germs once he leaves the hospital.

As Rose senses that it's all getting too much for Dawn, she encourages her to take a break and join her for some brandy.

Will is horrified when he spots Rose offering Dawn some heavy-duty sleeping tablets. He immediately steps in, telling Rose that Dawn is in recovery and needs to be protected from temptation.

With tensions reaching boiling point again, Will informs Rose that she's now on her last chance at Home Farm.

Dawn is more understanding, as she offers forgiveness to Rose for her mistake. Kim backs Will, warning Rose that she has a long way to go before making amends.

Before long, Rose updates Ruby about how her faux pas at Home Farm has undermined the progress she was making with their plan.

Ruby is deeply unimpressed, reminding Rose how important it is to keep the scheme on track. Is Rose really up to the task?

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Monday, June 3, and Tuesday, June 4.

However, Will is horrified when he catches Rose offering Dawn some heavy-duty sleeping tablets. Will tells Rose that Dawn is in recovery and he warns Rose that she's on her last chance at Home Farm.

Meanwhile, Marlon vents his concerns to Paddy.

Elsewhere, Samson is chuffed.

Also today, over a beer, Cain reminds Liam that he cares about how Liam's doing.

When Charles visits, Rhona can't help engaging in a chat about a potential christening for Ivy. Marlon returns in the middle of the conversation, stunned that Rhona has seemingly made another major decision without him.

Rhona explains that Charles was the one who raised the prospect of christening Ivy.

However, the fact that Rhona always has a justifiable reason why she makes decisions without him is part of Marlon's frustration with her. Unable to take any more, he launches a pan of food at the floor.

Meanwhile, when Samson rolls up without L-plates and Josh announces Samson passed his driving test, Samson is miffed by Lydia's perfunctory congratulations.

Elsewhere, Will is unconvinced by Rose's attempt to make amends.

Struggling to cope with Josh's endless flirting, Amy leaves work early. When Matty gives Josh some home truths about his behaviour and tells Josh and Samson to leave the premises, Josh is left fuming and embarrassed.

The situation between Josh and Matty grows increasingly hostile for Matty, until Josh starts threatening him to give up the money in the till.

The stand-off escalates and Josh shoves Samson into Matty, causing him to be stabbed by the knife that Matty was holding.

With Samson bleeding out and Josh standing back accusing Matty for coming at them with the knife, Matty is stunned to realise the narrative has been turned and he panics about what the consequences might be for him.

Meanwhile, on a camping trip, Paddy is aghast to hear that Marlon is still serious about divorcing Rhona. Paddy tries to inspire his mate to fight for his marriage with the same tenacity he used to fight his way back from his stroke, but can he get through to him?

Elsewhere, Belle feels trapped.
