Ally Harris and Jessica Redmayne on their new Home and Away roles - and the battles they?ve faced
    ?We support each other.'

In 2014, actress Jessica Redmayne's life changed forever when she came home to devastating news after a two-month stint in the Philippines on tour with a production of Alice In Wonderland.

"I'll never forget the day I returned," Jessica, 31, tells TV WEEK. "Mum ran down the driveway and said, 'Jess, everything's changed ? I've been diagnosed with dementia.' I told her everything was going to be OK, but I already knew [she had it]. Now, we had it in writing."

Jessica had suspected something might have been wrong when her mother, Christine, would forget she'd made a cup of tea and leave it in the microwave, or go to the shops to buy bread and return with washing detergent. What she wasn't prepared for was just how rapid her decline would be once the diagnosis was official.

"After I returned from doing 800 Words [the comedy drama that ran for three seasons until 2018] in New Zealand, she declined significantly," she reveals. "She's been in care for four years; she has no physical mobility and is non-verbal. She completely forgot who my dad and I were five years ago."

At the beginning, visits were tough for Jess, with her mum often confusing her for a friend and thinking herself much younger than she actually was.

"She'd ask, 'Where's my mum?'" Jess recalls. "One of the first times she asked, I told her, 'Your mum passed away,' and she burst into tears. I ended up telling her a white lie ? that her mum had gone to the shops ? but it was in her best interest."

Jess knows how proud Christine would be of her role as Harper Matheson in Home And Away.

"The worst part is that I can't share this with her," Jess says through tears.

"She took me to dancing lessons four or five times a week for almost 15 years and made all my costumes. She took me to acting lessons, modelling and everything under the sun ? she was so encouraging."I wouldn't be doing this without her, and I know she would be so proud."

Jessica is now an ambassador for Dementia Australia and hopes that by sharing her story, people who've gone through the same experience will know they aren't alone. She also wants to educate others about how to detect signs of early onset dementia.

"Mum was a very vibrant, charismatic woman, but that started to diminish in her personality in her mid-50s," she explains. "She became quite insecure, particularly in her decision-making, so we knew something was wrong, but it [evidence of dementia] didn't show up in MRI scans until she was 60."

Jessica and Home and Away co-star Ally Harris have become fast friends after starting their Home And Away journey together and have leant on each other as they navigate the new experience. Ally, who was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) later in life, jokes that she's lucky to have Jessica to tell her when to show up to set.

"I had a long history of not being very productive and not understanding why," Ally, 24, says. "I felt a lot of pressure and kept asking myself, 'Why can't you follow through? Why can't you finish things?' Now, I have more of a handle on it and have become obsessed with getting lots of things done. It can be overwhelming."

Ally plays Dana Matheson, Jessica's sister's character. In a case of life imitating art, the two have what Ally describes as a "big sister, little sister" dynamic in their off-camera friendship.

"I'm so thankful I've met Jess," she says. "Throughout my career, I've met wonderful women who have helped ground me and respect myself more as an artist. She helps me articulate my needs as an actor; she really has her stuff together."

"We spend a lot of time outside of work together," Jess reveals. "Our friendship really contributes to the chemistry of the characters on the show."

Packing up in Perth and moving to Sydney for the role, Ally has left behind her partner of nearly two years. But the distance hasn't dimmed the relationship.

"Honestly, it's much better than I thought it would be," she tells. "He's interstate a lot and we're very lucky that we've never played mind games or anything like that with each other, so we're very secure [in our relationship]."

Jess shares that it "hasn't sunk in yet" to be a part of the H&A legacy.

"It's such a huge part of the Australian culture," she says. "The number of people from around the world who come to Palm Beach [in Sydney's north] to watch us film is extraordinary. To be a small part of that makes me very proud."

    SPOILER ALERT!
Yahoo.com article with photos of Jessica Redmayne (Harper) filming at Palm Beach, with a fake baby bump.

Home and Away spoiler: Shock pregnancy set to rock Summer Bay
This leaked snap confirms Harper is pregnant.

    https://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/home-...005737518.html

Warning: This post contains major spoilers from Home and Away.

It looks like Home and Away is about to get a new arrival. Photos taken on Tuesday this week show Harper Matheson (Jessica Redmayne) walking around Summer Bay with a fake baby bump. It?s unclear who the father is, but fans are convinced it?s Tane Parata (Ethan Browne).

A fan shared the snap on a Facebook fan group, saying the crew ?were filming? when the photo was taken. Tane appears to be rubbing Harper?s belly while looking concerned.

?It?s Harper, don?t know who the dad is [though],? she said.

The fan also shared a video of the scene filmed by her daughter, and it appears that Harper is feeling the baby kick for the first time. After calling Tane over to feel it, he touches her belly before bending down to check out the bump. The scene finished with the pair smiling and Harper doing a little jump of joy.

?I was so lucky to go [to Palm Beach] two years ago and met lots of crew and cast, [it] was amazing. My daughter is out there again now, wish I was with her,? the fan wrote in the comments.

Since the show films approximately five to six months in advance, this storyline won?t hit Aussie screens until October or November later this year.

    ?Omg that?s an epic spoiler?
Viewers went wild over the leaked snap, with many wondering if Tane and Harper become a couple.

?Omg she?s pregnant with Tane?s baby. That?s probably why Flick left,? one person guessed.

?I wonder if she is just carrying the baby for him like a surrogate. I hope they are together though,? another added.

?Maybe she?s pregnant [with] Tane?s baby? One night stand maybe?? a third theorised.

    ?I hope it?s Tane?s baby. I think he?ll be a great dad,? another remarked.

Could this spoiler mean Tane is leaving Home and Away?
While most people were excited at the prospect of a baby in Summer Bay, some are convinced this means Tane isn?t going to stick around for much longer.

Baby Grace?s arrival resulted in Tori Morgan (Penny McNamee) and Christian Green?s (Ditch Davey) exit and baby Izzy left the bay with Ziggy Astoni (Sophie Dillman) and Dean Thompson (Patrick O?Connor).

?Cool but it means they?ll sadly be written out of the show. Tane will be difficult to replace like Brax, Dean etc,? a fan wrote.

?Great news. Whoever falls pregnant [and] has a baby, ends up leaving the show,? another agreed.

?Guess she will be leaving soon. The curse of the baby. Have a baby [on the] show and leave not long after,? a third remarked.

Home and Away star responds to hateful messages over baby plot
"My job is acting not writing."

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/hom...eful-messages/

Home and Away spoilers follow for Australian-paced episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Home and Away star Jessica Redmayne has responded to hateful messages she has received over character Harper Matheson's baby plot.

Scenes that have aired in Australia have seen Harper learn that she is pregnant with Tane Parata's baby, which comes after the death of Tane's former wife Felicity.

After sharing a promo clip of Harper breaking the news to Tane, however, the actor received some negative comments from some, likely due to the fact that Tane and Felicity were a popular couple with fans.

Jessica subsequently shared a message to her followers following the backlash, writing in her Instagram Stories: "Please don't message me telling me to stay away from Tane or how much you hate Harper.

"My name is Jess and I'm an actor. My job is acting not writing. I shared that promo because I'm proud of my work."

In a subsequent video, Jessica suggested that fans should be able to voice their opinion, though requested that they not "attack" actors doing a job.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone that has messaged me to show their love and support," she said. "I'm quite overwhelmed by the response that that post that I did last night has received.

"And I also just wanted to say that by no means should anyone stop voicing their opinion about the show, because it's wonderful that people have opinions about these characters and you know you're really invested in these characters. Don't ever stop voicing those opinions."

The star continued: "But I guess the point that I was making was that please don't enter our DMs and attack us as actors. Because we are actors and we are portraying a character and we are telling a story. So yeah, that's our job.

"But thank you for being fans. Thank you for loving the show, and thank you to my friends and my family that have shown support and care and love. I very much appreciate it."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeat screenings at 6pm on 5STAR and first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7Plus.

Not a spoiler, but an interesting crossover for H&A and Neighbours fans...

Yahoo.com article (see photos in the link)

Home and Away star's surprising connection to rival show
Jessica Redmayne, who plays Harper on Home and Away, has shared a surprising throwback photo from an iconic Neighbours storyline.

    https://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/home-...030059364.html

A current Home and Away star has shared a surprising connection to a very popular and very chaotic Neighbours storyline, revealing she once starred in the competing soap, but in a very subtle way.

Jessica Redmayne, who plays Harper Matheson on Home and Away, shared on her Instagram Stories that she played the body double for character Andrea Somers on Neighbours. If that name doesn't quite ring a bell, then surely the name Dee Bliss (played by Madeleine West) does ? Dee was an iconic '00s character on Neighbours before she appeared to meet her tragic, untimely end on the day of her wedding to Toadie when he drove their car off a cliff and into the sea. Idiot.

Home and Away star's surprising connection to Neighbours
Anyway, what does that have to do with Neighbours character Andrea? Well, Madeleine West returned to Neighbours in 2016, introduced as Dee back from the dead, but it turned out to be Andrea Somers, a woman impersonating Dee in an attempt to swindle some money.

Now, in this already convoluted storyline, enter Jessica Redmayne, who played Madeleine West's body double when Madeleine was playing Andrea, not Dee, and you have the full picture!

Jessica recently shared a snap on her Instagram story revealing the body double gig in a throwback photo from five years ago.

Jessica's stroll down memory lane was to commemorate that she's now playing a lead character on a show and now needs her own body double, due to Harper's pregnancy storyline, which she posted in her next snap.

Home and Away fans loved the little throwback and fun fact
"Wow, I watched Neighbours back then (along with Home and Away of course, and of course I watch both shows now) and didn't know this until now," one person commented.

"Wow, I really thought it was Dee playing both parts!" another said, while someone else chimed in, "Oooh, that?s a great interesting fact."

Meanwhile, another fan had other things on her mind. "I'm telling you, Jessica looks like, Marcia, Maureen McCormick from the Brady Bunch. Can anyone else see this?"

    Tbh, I do.

Home and Away returns January 13, 2025.

Home and Away reveals heartbreaking Harper scenes in 2025 return
"If things go wrong, I want you to save my baby."

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/hom...r-2025-return/

Home and Away spoilers follow for Australian-paced episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Home and Away has revealed heartbreaking scenes for Harper Matheson, as the soap returns for a new season in 2025.

In scenes that have aired in Australia, pregnant Harper recently learned that her baby has a cyst on his lung and requires in-utero surgery to prevent foetal heart failure. However, the procedure is risky as Doctor Levi Fowler has never performed this type of surgery before.

Though the baby's father Tane Parata and Harper's sister Dana Matheson tried to help her review the facts, Harper was reluctant to have the surgery as it could result in the baby's premature birth.

The 2024 season finale in Australia saw Harper ultimately listen to the doctor and agree to have the surgery. But did she make the right decision?

In a new Instagram video, Home and Away has teased its 2025 return with devastating scenes of Harper's upcoming procedure.

The promo video opens with a terrified Harper declaring, "I've never been so scared in my life". The expectant mother is shown prepped for surgery, as she shares a heartbreaking request with Levi.

    https://www.instagram.com/reel/DETRi...4-5ea1b5185375

"I need you to promise me something. If things go wrong, I want you to save my baby," she pleads.

The clip then saw Levi during the surgery, announcing "it's not working", before another doctor reveals, "she might die". Both lives appear to hang in the balance as Levi adds: "If he's delivered now, he might."

Fans took to the comment section to share their theories and excitement for the soap's return. "They're both gonna make it, have faith though," wrote one. "Oh I'm so excited," said another.

A third added: "Not long now until we get our daily fix and all will be revealed!"

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeat screenings at 6pm on 5STAR and first-look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7Plus.

Home and Away's Harper Matheson left devastated in Tane Parata story
She confides in John after a tough day.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/hom...ne-devastated/

Home and Away spoilers follow from Australian pace episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Home and Away has hinted that Harper Matheson and Tane Parata might not make it down the aisle.

The long-running soap recently launched a wedding storyline for the new couple after Tane spontaneously proposed to Harper. The couple are also expecting a baby boy together after having a one-night stand late last year.

Recent episodes on air in Australia saw Tane pop the question to Harper, after coming under pressure to prove his commitment to her and the baby.

While this seemed like a positive step at first glance, it quickly became clear that Tane may not have feelings for Harper aside from their shared bond over the baby.

Today's Australian episode saw this major problem come to a head as Harper and Tane recruited John Palmer to help with their wedding plans. With every decision that needed to be made, Tane pushed for a no-fuss approach so that everything could be sorted before the baby arrives.

Tane suggested a registry office ceremony, no wedding reception and even seemed put out at the suggestion of writing his own heartfelt wedding vows for Harper.

It quickly became clear that romance simply wasn't on Tane's mind with any of these arrangements ? leaving poor Harper dismayed at every turn.

In the end, Harper broke down in front of John as she expressed her fears that Tane would never truly be happy in his new relationship with her.

Harper explained: "I need to stop kidding myself. What I have with Tane now, it's probably the best I could hope for. Some days it even feels like enough. [Some days] it feels like an ache that doesn't go away. I don't know if he'll ever truly love me."

With Harper already having doubts, will she decide that she deserves better than this?

Home and Away fans in the UK will see these scenes on Channel 5 in March.
