We've all been wondering what brings Warren Fox's son Joel Dexter back to Hollyoaks - and the answer is a real surprise.

It turns out that newcomer Ryan Knight already knows Joel and he'll be the one responsible for luring him back to the village next month.

Joel's first scenes back in Hollyoaks will air in the show's upcoming Point Of View Week, which explores one day from the perspective of different characters in the Patrick Blake murder case.

When Ryan launches a bid to get information from Warren which could help to solve the mystery, he tells his colleagues at the police station that he has a secret link to the bad boy's past.

That link is none other than Scottish Foxy himself, but will Ryan really be able to use Joel to entice information out of Warren?

A Hollyoaks insider told Digital Spy: "Joel hasn't always been the greatest of guys in the past, so it definitely leaves food for thought over the nature of Ryan's connection to him."

Blue's Duncan James, who plays Ryan, is already hinting at a darker side to his character - so is this another clue that he isn't all he seems? As always with Hollyoaks, we'll have to wait and see.

Hollyoaks announced last week that they'd recast the role of Joel, with Rory Douglas-Speed taking over from previous actor Andrew Still.

With Joel now a trainee priest, he's a world away from the troubled character we knew before – and Warren will be desperate to make amends with his son despite their previous animosity.
