I think it is quite common for actors/actresses to get either praised or abused by the public because of the storylines they are involved in. Some people seem to forget that they are watching a soap/film and confuse that with reality.

I know its crazy, I remember reading before about the guy who played Richard Hillman getting loads of abuse and also the bloke who played Trevor in EE. surely people realise their playing a character and its not real

No, I have read this happening a fair bit over many years, some people forget that they are watching actors and give them hell if they don't agree with the storylines. Or they ask where the actor's partner is when they are out shopping, expecting them to be out as a couple.
