more detailed spoilers in case anyones interested:

    monday
As Ronnie calls Joel, Dawn informs her that the speed dating posters have arrived. Ricky reveals that he's looking forward to the speed dating event, while Bianca laughs off his interest. Dawn, meanwhile, prepares for her engagement party but Ronnie's friendly nature disappears when Dawn suggests that she bring along a date. Outside the Minute Mart, Ronnie comes face to face with Archie and explicitly tells him that he's banned from the party that evening. Archie's dismissive of his daughter and suggests that she get used to him being around, while he claims that she's living in the past.

Later, Joel wanders into The Vic, much to Ronnie's delight. He's confused, though, when she suggests that they catch up - he thought he was there on business. As they reminisce about the past over a drink, Ronnie bites the bullet and invites him to Dawn's engagement party. Reluctantly, he agrees. At the party, Ryan's frustrated when he notices Ronnie flirting with Joel. When confronted, Ronnie simply brushes off his remarks, claiming that she and Joel 'have a connection'. On Joel's departure, Archie drops in a snide comment that he couldn't leave quick enough.

Outside, Ronnie's about to confess to Joel that she still has feelings for him when a car pulls up beside him to pick him up. Ronnie doesn't see the female driver who kisses Joel…

Meanwhile, a mystery man startles Heather at the launderette, before heading across to Dot's. She opens the door and she's standing face to face with Mr Papadopolous. He hands her a present, which visibly upsets her. With her toilet blocked, Dot waits with Dotty in the café for a call from the plumber. Dot, however, is concerned by the potential cost. Returning home, Dot pulls Bradley's horse winnings from under the sink which she handed him months ago. She looks at the stash, before replacing it. Instead, she resolves to rent her spare room out.

Elsewhere, Janine continues to flirt with Ryan at Dawn's engagement party; Whitney thanks Lauren for not blabbing about her and Ryan stealing Max's car; Mo sets up a tarot tent in the Square; Ryan mocks Ian; Brenda's annoyed by Mo's ongoing interference; Whitney and Lauren watch a DVD at Janine's flat complete with alcohol, but Ryan's frustrated by the barrage of questions; Whitney starts talking about Tony to Lauren but Lauren's dismissive; Janine and Bianca come to blows at Dawn's party; and when Mo follows Charlie to the summer house and peers through the window, she's stunned by what she sees…

Ronnie eagerly awaits a message or call from Joel, but she's frustrated by his lack of communication. Roxy looks on with concern. When Billy mentions the speed dating that evening, Ronnie insists that she won't be joining in, just as Peggy reveals that the company hosting the night has pulled out. Not one to disappoint the locals, Peggy decides to take on the role of event organiser. When Bianca turns up, she's perplexed to hear that her name's been put down for the evening, before Ronnie confesses her feelings about Joel to Roxy. Frustrated that her sibling's living in the past, Roxy's firm - Joel's old news.

Later, Bianca learns that Janine signed her up to the speed dating and just as she's about to pull out, Ricky challenges her as to who can score the most dates. While Janine tries to put paid to Bianca's attempts at flirting, Ricky kicks one of the punters out of The Vic when he makes a pass at Roxy. The youngest Mitchell sister is quietly impressed and they get on surprisingly well when they're paired up. At the end of the evening, Janine laughs at Bianca for only having one name written down. As Janine's thrown out of the pub, Bianca lambastes Ricky for coaxing her into participating and tells him to drop dead. When she looks at the card, though, it shows that he was her only match…

Meanwhile, Bradley asks Dot about her advert for a lodger and suggests that he's there for the round of interviews. As Dot cleans the house, her first applicant arrives and she's not impressed in the slightest. Later, while interviewing another prospective older tenant, she's horrified when he makes a pass at her. She immediately slaps him and throws him out. A tarty-looking young female also fails to pass Dot's quality check. By the end of the day, though, Dot's pleased to announce to Bradley that she's found a new lodger - Liz Turner.

Elsewhere, Roxy's punch has more of a kick than she bargained for; Mo tells Charlie that she saw him at the summer house; Ryan's taken aback when Janine mentions Tony's abuse of Whitney; Charlie's frustrated at the lack of privacy with Brenda; Ian tries to have a relaxing afternoon but it's interrupted by Liam and Tiffany playing; Charlie plays his horn for Brenda; Ryan phones the café pretending to be a food critic; Brenda decides to end things with Charlie; Ian's livid and takes Liam's football away and pops it; and when confronted by Mo, Brenda admits that she's emigrating…

As Ronnie stares eagerly at Joel's number in her phone, Roxy walks in with good and bad news. She reveals the good news that Ronnie had eight matches at speed dating, but the bad news is that her card has gone missing. However, Peggy's made another one and Roxy urges her sister to forget about Joel. Later, Ronnie's looking at some lingerie in her bedroom and when Roxy questions her about it, she's dismissive in her response. Frustrated by Ronnie's mood, Roxy confronts her and demands to know why her speed dating card was screwed up in the bin. Peggy listens on and is shocked to hear about Joel.

Ronnie admits that she's not told Joel about Danielle because it's difficult and when Roxy points out that rekindling their romance isn't the answer, Ronnie calls to cancel their meeting. Jack turns up at The Vic to hand over the money for Ronnie's share of R&R and when he does, he says that she's not capable of finding another man. Determined to prove her naysayers wrong, Ronnie goes to see Joel at his office. They kiss, before returning to The Vic. Walking into the bedroom, they find a disgusted Roxy sat on the bed. When Joel goes to the bathroom, Ronnie sees his wallet and can't help but take a look. Inside, she finds a picture of his wife and kids. On his return, she feigns ignorance and the pair continue kissing…

Meanwhile, Ricky's in the café trying to work out who his matches were at speed dating. Bianca overhears and tears up her card. Ricky's later frustrated when Dawn reveals that his card will have been thrown out. Later, Ricky rummages through the bins outside the pub, much to Dawn's disgust, but when they find his card marked with an 'M' and another smudged letter, they're intrigued. Ricky suspects it's Peggy and awkwardly confronts her. When Ricky's later asked by Ronnie if he 'fancies a fair', he presumes she means 'an affair'. Ronnie quickly decides to take the tube, while Ricky realises that his match must've been Roxy. He later reveals to Bianca that he has a date with the youngest Mitchell sister.

Elsewhere, Ryan lets a cockroach loose in the café; Charlie's frustrated by Brenda's decision to leave him; Ryan steals all the money from the café; Mo tells Charlie about Brenda's decision to emigrate; Ryan tells Whitney that he knows what happened with Tony; Brenda meets with Charlie and confesses that she's moving to Madeira with her brother Clive and his family; Charlie asks Brenda for one final date; Whitney asks her brother not to stay in Walford out of pity but because he wants to get to know her; and as Brenda's bus pulls away, Charlie runs in front of it and is knocked to the floor, clutching his chest…

As Archie walks through the Square with Jack, he asks if everything's on for later in the day. Jack reassures him, before Archie wanders over to The Vic. Inside, he questions Roxy about Joel and Ronnie. Roxy, however, suggests that he leave them alone. With Archie gone, Roxy asks Ronnie to babysit while she goes on a date with Ricky, but she's unimpressed when her sister declines. Over at the Car Lot, Archie announces to a confused Darren and Ricky that he's their new boss. Feeling betrayed, Darren confronts Jack in the pub and threatens to reveal what he knows about Kevin Wicks's death. Before leaving, Darren reveals to Ronnie that Archie's the new owner of the Car Lot.

Storming across the Square, Ronnie goes to confront her father, insisting again that nobody wants him in Walford. Later, with Ronnie gone, Archie tells Ricky and Darren that their jobs are safe, before announcing their pay rise and his intention to take the Car Lot's business upmarket. At that moment, a man from a crane team enters and says he's there to move the Car Lot. Unbeknown to Archie, Ronnie had arranged the crane in the hope it induces a heart attack. Joel calls and shortly afterwards, Jack hands Ronnie a cheque for her half of R&R and explains that he had to sell the Lot to buy her out.

Later, outside The Vic, Archie tries to pay off Joel to leave the area. Joel's taken aback when Archie reveals that he knows about his wife and children. Reluctantly, Joel takes Archie's money and disappears.

Meanwhile, Ricky prepares for his date with Roxy, while Bianca's jealousy shines through. In the café, she sets her sights on Dr Al and begins flirting outrageously with him. In the hope of securing a drink with him, Bianca promises him free lattes all week if he meets her in The Vic that night. Al agrees on the condition that they're no more than friends. Later, Bianca has a drink with Al complete with baby monitor as she couldn't find a babysitter. After a game of darts, Roxy and Al sneak upstairs to check on baby Amy. While upstairs, Roxy points out that Ricky and Bianca still have feelings for each other, while Al suggests that Roxy's out of Ricky's league…

Elsewhere, Dot sets down some house rules with Liz; Charlie returns home from the hospital after suffering a bruised rib and reveals that he's leaving for Madeira with Brenda and her family that night; Dot and Liz gossip in The Vic; Jean arranges a goodbye meal for Charlie; Denise is furious to see that Liz is still in Walford; Stacey gives Charlie her blessing to leave; Libby invites Dot and Liz for tea; Mo clashes with Brenda at Charlie's leaving meal; Denise tries to sabotage Liz's meal; and when Mo eventually accepts that Charlie's leaving, he and Brenda leave in a taxi…

Archie Mitchell starts empire building – by talking Jack Branning into letting him run the car lot.

Larry Lamb, the actor who plays sneaky Archie, said: “He wants control of everything. He wants to run the lot.

“He’s got to be the head of the family – and it doesn’t matter how far it goes wrong, he never really sees that.”

Archie was forced to leave the Square soon after his disastrous wedding to Peggy Mitchell when it was revealed he had lied to his daughter Ronnie about her own daughter being dead.

Ever since, the disgraced family man has been worming his way back into the Mitchell family.

Our Walford source adds: “As usual Archie is putting number one first here.

“He knows that having the car lot will place him in a position of power. It means he is not as dependent on Peggy as he was in the past.

“If things do happen to go wrong again this time he has something to fall back on.”

Putting the concerns about Ronnie out of his mind Jack and *Archie shake on the deal.

Later at the car lot Archie reveals to Darren and Ricky that he is their new boss, leaving them surprised and confused.

What will Archie do next to cement his control in the Square?

Viewers can find out by tuning in on August 14 on BBC1 at 8pm.
