You need to use the cut tool, but I'm not sure how to use it.
I use the tool that looks like a lassoo and it hugs (sort of) the outline, so you click around the picture, and then when you've finished double click inside the pic.
Hope that makes sense, give me a shout if not, and i'll try and explain it better

If you cant use that one, I normally use the green looking thing up above the lasso one if that makes sense

I do what Layne explained in this post, and basically rub the background out, using the eraser tool. I find using the lasso tool can leave jagged edges, so if your patient enough to do this, it can look more professional and blended, compared to the lasso tool. Also, if you want to put the picture onto another background, then this makes them blend more, so it doesn't look so obvious that its on another background.
Anyway, thats what i do.
Little tip, if you are earsing the background, try zooming in! Its easier to do that way x
