This is probably the scene that fans of EastEnders' Ronnie (Samantha Womack) and Jack (Scott Maslen) have been waiting for - the proposal.

After Peggy (Barbara Windsor) rumbles Jack's intentions when she finds the engagement ring in his flat, Jack's been backed into a corner - to propose to Ronnie before the following Monday as she's arranged their party at The Vic.

So when Monday rolls around, Jack's still not been able to pluck up the courage to ask Ronnie for her hand in marriage, even though Peggy's already decked out the pub with congratulations banners, much to Jack's frustration. Demanding that they be taken down, Jack storms out of the pub and bumps into his brother Max (Jake Wood).

After a conversation with Max, Jack resolves to propose and when Peggy catches him with a bunch of flowers, she has a feeling that the banners will need putting back up.

Ronnie, however, returns from the airport having collected Roxy (Rita Simons) from her holiday in Spain, and walks into the pub to a round of applause. Bemused, she demands that Jack get to The Vic. Jack's embarrassed as he walks through the packed bar, before crouching on bended knee and proposing. What will Ronnie say?

These scenes air on Monday, June 22 at 8pm on BBC One.

    Two Beale drive

GREAT Scot! EastEnder Ian Beale shows off his chicken legs as he wheels into Albert Square wearing a kilt and riding a tandem.

The BBC soap’s penny-pinching catering magnate (Adam Woodyatt) has been on a cycling holiday to Scotland with long-suffering wife Jane (Laurie Brett).

The warring couple won the break in a raffle.

Jane had dreamed that their trip would consist of long country walks and daisy-filled meadows.

But Ian had other ideas — and surprised her with bicycle chains and haggis.

Despite their uphill struggles, the wheels still don’t come off their punctured marriage.

When the pair return to Walford, miserly misery Ian is even sporting a huge grin along with his tartan smock — until he sees the black hole where The Caff used to be.

The pair race round to confront Jane’s brother and business partner Christian Clarke (John Partridge).

He bluntly reveals how twisted Nick Cotton (John Altman) had blown up The Caff in desperation after he failed to kill his mum Dot (June Brown).

But the only thing that seems to be worrying Ian is what has happened to his profits. Must be quite a Jock to the system.

    Jack proposes to Ronnie

Airs on Monday, June 22 2009 at 20:00 BST on BBC One

With Ronnie having gone to pick Roxy up from the airport, Jack walks into The Vic and is taken aback to see a huge congratulations banner for his and Ronnie's supposed engagement. An excited Peggy's annoyed, however, to learn that Jack hasn't yet popped the question. Back at the flat, Max questions Jack why he's stalling for time to propose, insinuating that he's scared of a potential rejection. With his conscience pricked, Jack goes out and buys a huge bunch of flowers. On Roxy's return, she sees that the pub is decked out for her sister's engagement party. Peggy attempts to prevent Ronnie from entering the pub but while on the phone to Jack, she walks into her own party. With that, she demands that Jack get to the pub immediately.

It's an awkward moment for Jack as he walks into The Vic. With the locals looking on, Jack makes his way across the room to Ronnie, before crouching on bended-knee and asking for her hand in marriage. Ronnie, however, tells him to "forget it", before she rushes upstairs and locks herself in the kitchen. Jack listens as Ronnie insists that she's never been so embarrassed. Apologising, Jack reaffirms his love for her. Downstairs, Jack walks back into the bar with a sad face, but Ronnie surprises everyone when she announces that she's to become a Branning.

Back home, Ronnie and Jack prepare to celebrate though while Jack arranges the champagne, Ronnie goes to the bathroom to retrieve a condom and proceeds to pierce holes in it - just as Jack enters…

Meanwhile, Ian and Jane return from Scotland to find the café boarded up; Jordan skips school to see his mum, but Lucas insists that she's not a very good mother and that he should stay away from her; Syed attempts to push his kiss with Christian to one side; Christian is forced to explain about the explosion; Lucas and Trina argue on the Square where Lucas demands she agree to the divorce; Christian tells Amira that he kissed a new man on Friday; Jane's not impressed that Christian went ahead with the renovations without the OK from the insurance company; Minty tries to take Manda back to his for 'coffee' again but she declines; and Jane shockingly discovers that the café wasn't insured.

    Jack demands an explanation
Airs on Tuesday, June 23 2009 at 19:30 BST on BBC One

As Ronnie stands with a pin and condom in her hands, she's stunned to be confronted by Jack. At first, she claims that the pin was to fix her trousers, but quickly admits that she was stupidly about to pierce the condom. After a moment of alone time, Jack returns to Ronnie who says that she'll pack her belongings. Naively, Jack believes that there's been no harm done since it was only the first time. In no time, they're back to where they were prior to the interruption. Later in bed, their conversation turns to having children and the debate becomes heated, with Ronnie erratically demanding that they start a family together.

Ronnie thaws slightly and decides to show Jack the baby items she's already bought. Pulling a box from beneath the bed, Jack's horrified by what he sees and suggests that Ronnie seek help. Thinking about walking in on Ronnie earlier in the evening as she prepared to pierce the condom, Jack asks her to look him in the eyes and admit that it was the first time she'd attempted such a stunt. When she can't, Jack loses his temper and accuses her of being like her father, Archie. Jack walks out of the flat, leaving a distraught Ronnie on the doorstep.

Ronnie calls Roxy in a distressed state asking if she's anything like their dad and after reassuring her sister that she isn't, Roxy tells Christian that something's not right with Ronnie. Out on the Square, Max hits a nerve with Jack when he reminds him that he's not getting any younger and should probably have a child with Ronnie before it's too late. Returning home to speak with Ronnie, he searches the flat but only finds her engagement ring on the coffee table. Outside, Ronnie drives off on her motorbike…

Elsewhere, Jordan tells Denise that Lucas doesn't want him seeing Trina any longer; Syed tells Christian that their kiss was a mistake; Denise confronts Lucas about Trina; Lucas admits that he and Trina were heroin addicts, Jordan was born addicted to heroin and she left while Jordan was in the special care unit; Christian tries to flirt with Syed, but Syed insists that he's 'normal'; and Denise notes down Trina's number from Jordan's phone.

Denise is shocked by Trina's confession

Airs on Thursday, June 25 2009 at 19:30 BST on BBC One

Catching Jordan on the phone trying to arrange a time to meet his mother Trina, Denise suggests that they invite her around for dinner. While Denise is shopping at the Minute Mart, Patrick's horrified to hear Denise's plans to cook for her. Denise breaks the news to Lucas that she's invited Trina over for a bite to eat, but he's adamant that it's a bad idea. However, Denise is firm - it'll be good for Jordan and will allow Lucas to sort out their divorce. When Denise leaves, Lucas leaves a threatening voicemail on Trina's phone, insisting that she not turn up at the house.

Later, Patrick expresses his anger at Lucas for allowing Denise to invite Trina around for the evening. Lucas, however, assures Patrick that he has the situation in-hand and that Trina won't dare turn up. As the evening draws on, the food is cooked and there's no sign of Trina, much to Jordan's disappointment. The doorbell rings, though, and Jordan bolts to the door and leads Trina into the dining room. Lucas is livid. It's a tense atmosphere over lunch and soon after, Denise suggests that Trina help her son get ready for bed.

With Jordan in bed, Trina returns downstairs and Denise broaches the subject of the divorce. Trina's taken aback by the suggestion, while Lucas insists that she knows he wants a divorce and to sign the papers. Revelling in the situation, Trina takes pleasure in revealing to Denise that she was with Lucas at Christmas, sleeping with him and planning their future…

Elsewhere, Ian ponders where he can raise the cash to pay the builders for the refit; during a meeting with the Masoods, Ian reveals he wants to sell his stake in Masala Queen; Minty and Phil race to see who can fix a car the quickest - the winner getting to leave early; Jack frantically searches for Ronnie; Max and Bradley are thrown out of their house; Syed suggests that the company lend Ian the money he requires; Minty's upset when he sees Manda leaving the community centre with two men; Max suggests that he and Bradley move in with Dot, much to her dismay; Syed tells Christian to keep his mouth shut about their kiss; and Roxy questions Jack as to why Ronnie's left her engagement ring behind.

Patrick admits the truth to Denise
Airs on Friday, June 26 2009 at 20:00 BST on BBC One

Denise is outraged by Trina's claims that she slept with Lucas at Christmas and asks him to throw his ex out. Outside, Trina pleads with Lucas that they're meant to be together but he demands that she leave. Inside, Denise blames herself for the trouble as she invited Trina around in the first place. The following day, Patrick confronts Lucas in the soup kitchen and urges him to tell Denise the truth, but Lucas insists that he's just as much of a liar as he painted the picture that he'd never seen Trina before.

Later, Lucas sits Jordan down and asks why he's not at school. Jordan admits that he heard everyone shouting the previous night. Unfazed by the situation, Jordan admits to knowing that Lucas slept with Trina at Christmas. However, he promises to keep the incident a secret from Denise so that they can be a family. Meanwhile, over at The Vic, Denise is talking to Patrick about their new family unit but overcome with guilt, Patrick reveals the truth - Lucas did sleep with Trina at Christmas and he's known for months. Denise is stunned by the revelation and at that moment, Lucas walks in…

Meanwhile, Zainab rather reluctantly signs the Masala Queen agreement to loan Ian the money for the café refurbishment and to mark the occasion, Ian announces his intention to hold a dinner party. Later, the Masoods turn up en mass at the Beales' and aren't overly keen on Ian's choice of delicacy - haggis. It's not long, though, before Christian arrives with a hoard of fish and chips. Afterwards, Christian, Syed and Amira head to The Vic for a drink and Syed looks extremely uncomfortable as Amira questions Christian if he's bisexual. The eldest Masood sibling soon urges Christian to leave, but Christian tells him that he made a mistake threatening him and vows to tell Amira about their kiss.

Elsewhere, Roxy asks Jack what happened between him and Ronnie and when Jack admits that he compared his fiancé to Archie, Roxy reveals that he touched a raw nerve as it would have been Danielle's birthday; Minty asks Darren to ensure the flat is free so that he can entertain Manda; and Roxy receives a call from Ronnie who reveals that she has no intention of returning to Walford.

Jack Branning’s marriage *proposal to Ronnie Mitchell goes haywire when nosy *Peggy Mitchell interferes.

Ronnie invites Peggy and Aunt Sal to dinner at Jack’s while he is out.

However, she has no idea they plan on rummaging through their things when she pops out.

Peggy finds an engagement ring hidden in Jack’s drawers and, guessing he’s planning a proposal, summons him to the Queen Vic.

Our insider said: “Peggy gives Jack quite a talking to – she doesn’t want him hurting Ronnie or messing her about.

“She even grills him on his past relationships knowing his womanising reputation.

“But he wins Peggy round and she begins to realise it could be a good thing. She gives him her blessing but tells him to propose on Monday as she’s organised the party!”

Jack is even more shocked when he finds her posting “congratulations” banners all over the pub.

He tries to tell Peggy it’s a private matter and asks her to take them down but she ignores his pleas.

Our Albert Square *insider added: “Ronnie arrives back at the Vic early and is shocked by the banners.

“Peggy quickly calls Jack over and, egged on by her, he gets down on one knee.

“It’s clear Ronnie’s under pressure and it sets her nerves on edge when he asks her to be his wife in front of a waiting audience. This is the last thing Jack wanted for him and Ronnie – he’s been mixed up in Mitchell's chaos before and he saw this as a fresh start.”

Find out what happens when he pops the question on June 22 at 8pm on BBC1.
