I assumed that they just walked in. Home Farm is never locked

I don't know a lot about cars but I do know the cylinder head is on the top of the engine, apart from the fact that modern engines rarely need it replacing, why is Dan working under the car. Do the writers just think of any car part and say it needs replacing - typifies their slapdash approach to story writing.

They're treating us like idiots now, while in the same room as Ellis, Paul takes the watch from one pocket and puts it into another, just so we know he stole it. As if we didn't know already. - Earlier he is shouting encouragement while listening to a race on the radio while Nicola, who is hardly the "soul of discretion", is in the room, and he is trying to keep his gambling secret.
If I though it would end this "who ran Moira down" story",I would confess to it myself.
