Emmerdale has received over 100 complaints following Gennie Sharma's shock murder this week.

The character, played by Sian Reese-Williams, was suffocated by killer Cameron Murray (Dominic Power) following a car crash on Thursday's (July 25) episode.

Ofcom received almost 100 complaints over the scenes, while 50 were sent to ITV. Most thought the scenes were too graphic to be shown before the 9pm watershed.

The media watchdog is currently deciding whether to investigate the episode, which attracted around 7 million viewers.

An ITV spokesman said: "This episode was the culmination of a very dramatic storyline which has been running for over a year. We made sure appropriate warnings were broadcast before the episode aired."

Emmerdale producer Kate Oates recently defended the murder scenes, explaining that the team was "very aware of what we can and can't show".

no one complained that by moving Gennie out of the car by dragging her through a window and across the ground, Cameron had probably already paralysed her or broken her neck etc????

I am finding the Sharmas quite heartless and cold in dealing with Nikhil for god's sake his wife has died he is grieving I wanted to punch Rishi and Jai

Rik Makarem is doing very well playing a grieve stricken Nikhil

Totally agree tammy2j, and what on earth were they thinking about leaving Molly with Nikhil, in his mental state. As far as Brenda's concerned, even allowing for her illness, smacking him one. She needs to think back how she use to treat Gennie ,sarcastic, always critising and sellfish. Hope Nikhil takes Molly with him when he leaves serve all the miserable sods right.

Brenda realised that Nikhils' actions were not out of malice or disrespect for his wife, and apologised. Initially ,I thought Brenda ignored how Nikhil was, and I guess Nikhil reacted how the character would in those circumstances. I bet you wouldn't have done the same Perdita you would pause for thought before acting.

Maybe not, I have never slapped anybody but in grief people do things that are totally out of their usual character. Watching that particular scene, I could empathise with Brenda.
