    Heatbeat Spoilers 7th June

    Sunday, 7 June 2009, 8:00PM - 9:00PM

Ellen (Paula Wolfenden), Lennie (Tony Maudsley) and his daughter Trudi (Alana Thornton) are being chased down a country lane by another car when they collide with a tractor travelling in the opposite direction. PC Mason (Joe McFadden) arrives at the scene of the accident as Ellen is rushed to hospital with serious injuries and is suspicious as to why they were driving so fast. Despite Lennie’s denial that Ellen was speeding, Mason’s sure he’s holding something back. What is Lennie hiding? Who was following the family of three?

Mason’s suspicions are confirmed when further inspection of the road reveals two sets of tyre marks which prove that they were being pursued by another car. Meanwhile, Carol (Lisa Kay) is wary after a couple of shady looking men turn up at the hospital wanting to see Ellen and trying to speak to Trudi. Mason decides to check up on the home address Lennie gave him and when it becomes clear it doesn’t exist, he realises he’s been lied to. Keen to get to the bottom of it all, he gets the finger prints on the car checked.

Elsewhere, Harold Venner (Ian Burfield) a gangster from Leeds, has arrived in the village. He’s paid local thug Barry (Paul Loughran) to kidnap Lennie, who is in possession of some documents that will incriminate him. Its clear Harry will do whatever it takes to stay out of prison.

Meanwhile, David (David Lonsdale) has a lucky win on the horses and buys a battered old jeep from a local farmer. However, when he finds an old tin inside it which he brings into the pub thinking it’s full of tinned peaches, Ventress (William Simons) is horrified to discover it’s a box of hand grenades! The pub is evacuated and an army bomb disposal unit is called in. As Lennie and Trudi watch the action with the rest of the village, Harold and Barry spot him. Lennie quickly realises he’s been seen and leaves Trudi with Carol as he escapes. Unable to catch Lennie, Harold and Barry plan to kidnap Trudi from her bed at Carol’s house and blackmail Lennie. However, as Harold drags the little girl to the car gagged, Barry has a flash of conscience and drives off leaving Harold and Trudi stranded in the middle of the road.

Rachel (Clare Wille) has had the results back from the finger print dusting on Lennie’s car and discovered he’s a book keeper who worked for Harold Venner’s gang in Leeds – he’s on the run with their account books and the gang have put £500 reward on whoever catches him.

Harold hijacks Bernie’s (Peter Benson) car and arrives at Barry’s flat with Trudi. The police manage to track them down, but when Harold hears them banging down the door he tries to throw her out of the living room window and escape. Will the police get to him in time?

David’s jeep turns out to be a treasure trove of valuable military paraphernalia and when the frail and ill Field Marshall who it belonged to discovers it’s been recovered he asks to see the vehicle. The villagers put on a parade of ex service-men, they clean up the jeep and don their old military uniforms as it’s paraded through the village.
