Emmerdale might be on the verge of a clean awards show sweep with its latest win at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards.

With a Broadcast Award already under its belt, Emmerdale fought off competition from EastEnders and Coronation Street to win Best Soap and Continuing Drama.

Among those celebrating the big win at the London gala was Mark Charnock, who's played Marlon Dingle on Emmerdale for the last 20 years.

    Mark Charnock tweeted:
    Mark Charnock ‏@MarkCharnock_ - 2h
We just won the #royaltelevisionsocietyaward for best soap! #emmerdale. Everyone’s VERY CHUFFED INDEED!

Given these big wins at the RTS Awards, can anything stop Emmerdale from triumphing at the British Soap Awards?

Richard Madeley presented the RTS ceremony at Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Tuesday (March 22) – where Doctor Foster, Ant & Dec and Catastrophe also won.

Emmerdale has finally been nominated for a BAFTA Television Award [Production Team] after missing out for the past two years.

The show will face off against Corrie, EastEnders and Holby City.

The ITV soap has received a nod in the Soap & Continuing Drama category [Production Team] at this year's event, which will be held in London next month.

The show has been on strong form of later, after picking up prizes at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards and the Broadcast Awards.

Hollyoaks is back off the list, after receiving its first BAFTA nomination since 2003 last year.

Last year's event saw Coronation Street claim the soap prize, beating EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Casualty to the title.

The 2016 ceremony takes place at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, May 8.

It's the big moment that all soap fans have been waiting for - longlist voting for the British Soap Awards 2016 has officially opened.

A host of stars from Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks have made the longlist for the Best Actor and Best Actress prizes - and we couldn't be more excited to bring you the full collection of nominees.

Last year, these categories were judged with a 50/50 split between public votes and an expert panel of judges - but the good news is that they've been put solely back into the hands of the viewers for the 2016 event.

As always, soap fans will also have the chance to vote for the coveted Best British Soap prize.

Eastenders won Best Soap at the British Soap Awards 2015.

Emmerdale's Nominees for Best Actor for 2016 are:

Danny Miller (Aaron Livesy) - Danny won in 2011 and 2012.
    Dominic Brunt (Paddy Kirk)
    John Middleton (Ashley Thomas)

Emmerdale's Nominees for Best Actress for 2016 are:

    Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel Thomas)
    Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle)
    Zoe Henry (Rhona Goskirk)

The competition for votes will no doubt be bigger than ever this year, as EastEnders secured the Best British Soap prize with a narrow winning margin of just 0.15% in 2015. They're not lying when they say that every vote counts!

Votes can be cast now via the official British Soap Awards website at:
    http://www.britishsoapawards.tv/

Details of the other categories, which are judged by the panel, will be revealed at a later date. The ceremony will take place at London's Hackney Empire theatre in May.

    TW:

Votes from the full long list of nominees are cast as a single-entry using an email address to which a verification email will be sent to for confirmation.

Long list voting closes at 5pm on Tuesday 26th April.

If you do not click the confirmation link, your votes will not be counted. Votes received outside of the voting period will not be counted.

The vote for the shortlisted nominees will reopen on Tuesday 3rd May when it will be revealed just who has been shortlisted.

There is then another chance to vote for your winners!

Commercial property estate agent Lambert Smith Hampton has submitted plans on behalf of UK TV studio ITV for a television studio tour of the Emmerdale set.

Attractions Management exclusively revealed in June 2015 plans for the live set tour by Continuum Attractions, which detailed the initial plans following great success with its Coronation Street tour, which ended on 31 December.

The ITV studio, located west of Leeds city centre, will continue to operate as an active television production base, with the addition of the tour offering fans a glimpse of the world and history of Emmerdale.

Along with the likes of Eastenders and Coronation Street, Emmerdale has been one of the UK’s most popular soaps since it first graced British screens 43 years ago.

The attraction is expected to draw around 150,000 visitors annually, generating £15m (US$21.4m, €18.8m) for the local economy and creating 70 new jobs. The tour would have a maximum capacity of 1,500 guests a day, with 50 guests on each tour lasting around 1.5 hours.

With the success of its Coronation Street attraction, Continuum has doubled its turnover in the space of two years, boosting its profits by an expected 13 per cent and demonstrating revenues of £18m (US$25m, €23m), thanks in part to the success of ‘Coronation Street The Tour’, which welcomed more than 850,000 visitors during its April 2014 to December 2015 run.

Continuum, which runs six cultural attractions across the UK, recently announced new operations for 2016, including a collaboration with the Royal Mint on its upcoming visitor centre and the RSPB on a Sherwood Forest experience.

Emmerdale might need to call in the Tattoo Fixers if producer Iain MacLeod gets his way.

The long-running ITV soap has feuding families, scheming crooks and, of course, Robron causing trouble on a weekly basis - but apparently none of them have the appropriate amount of body ink.

In a chat with Digital Spy and other media, producer Iain MacLeod revealed that he's been dreaming up a character who'll have more tattoos than Justin Bieber and Jemma Lucy combined.

"Oddly enough, I've been saying I'd really like to see a character that is covered head to toe in tattoos and body piercings - I've no idea why," Iain revealed.

"It's not something I have discussed with anybody but that's a character you don't often see in soaps - somebody quite alternative would be interesting, firstly to shake up people's preconceptions of that kind of subculture and secondly, it's just something different visually and quite striking."

While a tattooed vixen or heartthrob would be fun, Iain MacLeod seems to be hugely confident with the current Emmerdale cast at the moment.

    © ITV
"In terms of story and character mix, broadly we have a really good range from people who can carry really serious stories and people who can carry silly, comedy stories - some of those characters are the same, for instance Paddy and Marlon," he explained.

"They can do really silly but they can also break your heart and I think the stuff that Mark Charnock's done in the Marlon/Carly storyline - and the stuff that's coming up - is really heartbreaking. We have a really talented cast."

The soap is currently building up to the hugely-hyped death of Ashley Thomas later this week following a long battle with dementia. His final scenes will air on Friday and mark the end of an era for Emmerdale.

Comedian and actor Bobby Knutt has died on holiday in the south of France, his agent has confirmed.
The 71-year-old from Sheffield starred in ITV comedy series Benidorm, played Albert Dingle in Emmerdale and was the voice of a Tetley tea advert.
Mr Knutt's agent, Tim Scott, said the star died in France on Monday morning.
"Knutty" - real name Robert Wass - had a long career on stage. He appeared in The Comedians and Coronation Street and voiced numerous TV adverts.

The percentage of gay people in the UK is 2%, Scots 8.4%, Welsh 4.8% and Northern Irish 2.2%. This means sexual diversity of the gay population is about ten times the UK average, whereas the diversity of people from other countries within the union is zero. Same goes for Corrie. Is there some sort of pan ITV "gay" agenda at work?
