    Minder

PEOPLE have been banging on about it for months, but tonight you get to judge the brand new series of MINDER for yourself.

It’s back on our screens after an absence of 15 years, with Shane Richie starring as the nephew of the legendary Arthur Daley.

Joining him in the modern-day equivalent of Dennis Waterman’s old role is Lex Shrapnel (is that a brilliant name or what?), as cabbie Jamie Cartwright.

The pair first meet at the start of this opening episode, when Archie Daley leaps into the back of Jamie’s cab to try and escape a pair of heavies.

Pretty soon, Archie is persuading the reluctant Jamie to become his permanent right-hand man, not least because he proves pretty useful when things turn violent.

Starts at 9pm tonight on FIVE

British actor George Cole, best known for his role as a dishonest businessman in TV series “Minder,” has died at the age of 90.

Cole played the part of lovable rogue Arthur Daley in “Minder,” in which he starred alongside Dennis Waterman, for 16 years. The show often drew audiences of 17 million.

Cole played another crooked character, Flash Harry, in the four movies in the original “St. Trinian’s” school comedy franchise, which ran in the 1950s and 60s. Other actors appearing in the films included Alastair Sim and Joyce Grenfell.

Cole died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, U.K. after a short illness.

    RIP

I've always like George Cole since I first heard him in "A Life of Bliss" on the radio in the 1950s. He was brilliant in the St Trinian's films. R.I.P. George.
