Zavvi has announced that it is closing a further 18 of its stores, with the loss of 353 jobs.

The troubled high street retailer previously shut 22 stores after being placed into administration on Christmas Eve.

The group's administrators Ernst & Young are aiming to 'streamline' the brand with the hope of selling the business.

"Despite having received in excess of 70 expressions of interest, we have not received any offers for the store portfolio as a whole," Ernst & Young's Tom Jack said.

"Consequently, with reducing stock levels, we have had to manage the cost base of the business and close a further 18 stores."

Zavvi's flagship store in Piccadilly, London is one of the first shops to close, with the loss of 110 staff.

The chain suffered in the wake of the collapse of Woolworths, whose Entertainment UK (EUK) division was its main supplier.

All these shops must have been scraping by for years or not all of them would have gone bust in such a short time, all at the same time.
