Emmerdale bosses are currently casting a "Casanova" farmer, say reports.

According to The Sun, the ITV soap wants a new traditional country character, following the death of Clive Hornby (Jack Sugden) last month.

Andy Sugden, played by Kelvin Fletcher, is the only farmer currently on the show.

The character, who will apparently be called John Naylor, has been described as a "forty-something Casanova who will be an instant hit with the local ladies".

A source commented: "We want to create a new farming dynasty. Families and farming are the cornerstone of Emmerdale and it’s important we don’t forget that.

"We want to take the show back to its farming roots, while keeping it sexy and exciting."

They added: "We are in the final few days of casting and hope to announce our new man very shortly. The actor who is confirmed in the role will join the cast in late September and begin filming then."
