The Close is an exciting, new 12-part drama basing itself on the lives of everyday people living on a small street in a run-down area in Birmingham. With character ages ranging from surly teenagers to middle-aged parents, The Close brings some exciting storylines to thrill and shock audiences.

We will see teenagers battle with their emotions and love lives, young adults living in a world of drugs and alcohol, and the ones who have already seen it all before fight to stop their children going down the same path, while containing their own problems themselves. The Close aims to be as realistic as possible, but also as exciting as the best...

The drama will begin in July...

THE CHARACTERS

The Murphy Family
Jackie Murphy (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) aged 47
A single mother with two teenage boys, Jackie has been hardened by life and has had a tough time of it. With Carl and Steven as children, that doesn’t look like changing. Will Jackie ever get some happiness?

Steven Murphy (played by Nicholas Hoult) aged 18
The ‘Romeo’ of the close, Steven has grown a reputation for being a bit of a playboy and a womaniser. Having recently left college, Steven thinks he is ready to settle down and really make a go of a relationship. The question is - who with?

Carl Murphy (played by J.R Villarreal) aged 16
Living in the shadow of his elder brother, Carl has already been ignored by girls, rejected by his mother and has grown sad and bitter due to it. So much rage is building up in him that when it explodes, the close and the Murphys will be rocked.

The Stapleton Family
Sean Stapleton (played by Alan Fletcher) aged 43
The local paramedic, Sean is the head of the Stapleton family, a devoted father with good views and a loving husband to his wife. But with Nathan acting more and more like a rebellious teenager and his wife feeling neglected, will Sean be able to keep the stability in his household?

Lesley Stapleton (played by Courtney Cox) aged 40
Beautiful, glamorous and a loving mum, Lesley loves her husband and her children immensely, but with many male admirers in tow and getting bored with the absence of her husband, will Lesley betray Sean?

Nathan Stapleton (played by Cameron Bright) aged 15
Young, good-looking and temperamental, Nathan is normally a cheerful, happy-go-lucky person but with adulthood approaching fast, he is beginning to turn into a traditional moody teenager, chasing girls. But will he find a girl suitable for him, and if so, how far will he go to get her?

Bobby Stapleton (played by Conner Rayburn) aged 8
Young and blissfully unaware of any family problems, Bobby has always known home as a happy place. But with all the changes happening, will he stay feeling that way?

The Holmes Family
Dean Holmes (played by Bruce Willis) aged 44
A hard man and a bully, Dean has tracked his wife and kids down since they ran away from him. After numerous affairs, Leanne finally had enough of him, but despite his nature to other people, Dean is a loving father and would do anything to protect his two girls. With his divorce to Leanne approaching, will Dean force her to give up custody of the kids?

Leanne Holmes (played by Andrea Anders) aged 35
Beautiful and caring, Leanne loved her husband for fourteen years but his affairs and threatening nature became too much for her to cope with eventually and she decided to run away with her two daughters. Now Dean has tracked them down, Leanne is in danger again. Dean wants custody of the kids, and with Leanne’s shadowy past, she’s in for a battle.

Abby Holmes (played by Miranda Cosgrove) aged 16
Abby takes after her mother in many ways. She is loving and caring to others, and can trust a man too much, but she can have a cunning side when she wants. Deep in a relationship with Lee, Abby knows she has a lot to deal with at the moment.

Lauren Holmes (played by Madeleine Duggan) aged 14
Lauren used to be a sweet, kind girl, but as her parents drifted further apart, Lauren began to feel rage building up in her. Loyal to her father, she is cunning and devious, determined to make sure Dean triumphs over Leanne.

The Grant Family
David Grant (played by Tom Hanks) aged 46
A inspector for the police force, David has a sharp sense and knows when trouble is approaching his family. He will do anything to protect them, at any cost.

James Grant (played by Josh Hutcherson) aged 16
A goody-two-shoes, James has hopes of becoming a member of the police force, following in the shoes of his father. A devoted friend to Carl, he feels pushed out of the picture as Carl makes some undesirable friends. What will James’s fate be?

Lee Grant (played by Freddie Boath) aged 16
The twin brother of James, Lee is much more reckless than his brother and is at times jealous of the way David treats him. Lee is in a steady relationship with Abby, and is waiting to break his virginity. Will Abby be the girl to do this?
