    Skins Fan Fiction - Date With A Friend

    Just another fan fic from the POV of Maxxie, I know it's probably a lot of wishful thinking, but this is all about his "relationship" with Tony.

    WARNING: Contains some strong language & sexual references

    It’d been one of those lousy weeks at college, where everything seemed to go by so slowly and nothing seemed to have been learnt. Of course it didn’t help matters that the group were now divided. Michelle and Sid had learnt to stay away since the party. Jal spent a lot of free periods around Chris’ and Cassie was back on her path of self-destruction. All Anwar could talk about was his sex starved limbo following his break up from Sketch.

    “Hey Ton’, fancy doing something this weekend” asked Maxxie. He didn’t know what prompted him to ask, but he felt like he needed some escape from the current madness.
    “Like what?” came Tony’s unsure reply.
    “Dunno, see a movie or something?”
    “Sure”.

    Maxxie was sure that Tony would have said yes, no matter what he’d suggested, because the thing was no-one seemed to care about Tony anymore. He was never asked to do anything, or to go anywhere unless Maxxie asked him; it was if he was the only true friend of Tony’s left. Everyone was absorbed in their own little worlds, handling their own insignificant crisis’s to notice that their friend was slowly suffering in silence. It broke his heart to see Tony the way he was, a shadow of his former self.

    * * *

    That Saturday night, after a meal around his place with his mom telling more tales of her and Anthea’s from over the years, he and Tony left to go to the cinema. It was up to Maxxie to decide what film they watched, he wasn’t even sure if Tony was capable of making a decision anymore. He ended up choosing Step Up 2. It might be **** he thought, but it had dancing and Channing Tatum, so it had to be worth a watch.

    As they sat on the back row watching the movie, Maxxie glanced over at Tony, who sat that motionless, staring blankly at the screen, he wondered if Tony was even taking in what was going on. Tony suddenly held out his hand and Maxxie grabbed hold of it, and as he did a wave of emotions swept over him. Even now Tony had the power to make him weak at the knees. As cheesy as it sounded Maxxie had always seen Tony as “the one”.

    He knew they’d never have a proper relationship; it would just wouldn’t do for Tony’s “mr cool” reputation. Instead he had to settle for the odd night together or a stolen kiss when no one was looking. But what he and Tony had was far more than sex, they’d known one other for longer than he could remember, his mom used to tell him how he and Tony would sit together at nursery school and terrorise the teacher. He’d known Tony longer than any of the others, and felt like he knew him inside and out.

    They’d never been best friends, Sid had taken that crown, and soon enough Maxxie found Anwar. Maxxie liked it that way though – being best friends was messy, too much at stake. If you spend too much time around someone you soon get bored, and knowing what Tony was like he’d take this motto to the extreme. The one thing that kept him close to Tony was the fact that he was the one who he came out to. He’d never forget the day he told Tony everything, and the words of encouragement that he received. He half expected Tony to alienate him from the group but he was kind and understanding about it all.

    “That’s cool Max, you might be a poof, at least you’ve got the balls to admit it, and that’s more than most men out there.”
    He’d welled up with all the emotions, scared to tell his parents or any of the others. Tony told him to be honest with himself and to never be ashamed of what he was. The last thing the world needed was “another closeted gay boy in denial.” At the end of the day Maxxie had Tony to thank for everything, he wouldn’t be who he way today without him.

    Just spending time in his presence, how often or little it was, was enough for Maxxie. If he had to choose between sex with Tony or staying friends he’d settle for being friends any day, because having Tony in his life was something he didn’t even want to consider. Luckily enough he’d never been faced with the option of choosing between the two, at the moment they went together hand in hand comfortably enough.

    * * *

    “So what did you think of the movie Tone’?” Maxxie asked as they sat in a café later on, sharing a strawberry milkshake. He was feeling pretty tired but Tony begged him to stay out longer, his parent’s had been driving him mad at home with their over protective behaviour.
    “It was alright”.
    He half hoped that Tony would have got into a debate about how useless mainstream Hollywood was, and how everybody could learn a great deal about cinema from the French. But he soon realised that those days had gone, he was lucky to get the response that he did.

    They sat in silence for a few moments, neither feeling awkward about it. That was the true sign of a good friendship, to be happy enough in each other’s company to enjoy moments of silence from time to time. Maxxie closed his eyes and sniffed in the familiar scent of Tony’s aftershave, the same scent he smelt the first time they slept together.

    Most people thought that the whole “gay thing” happened after Russia, but it’d been simmering a long time before. It began with Tony dropping the odd compliment here and there, Maxxie thought nothing of it. But it soon began to get a lot more serious than that, Tony would give him glances from across the room at parties, or wink to him when they were all sat on the grass verge at college. At first he thought it was another of Tony’s games – toying with the gayboy’s feelings, but it was much more than that.

    It all came to head after one of Chris’ crazy house parties. Michelle was off her tits, she always seemed to be whenever something happened between him and Tony, so Jal had ended up taking her home early. He was sat in the garden alone when Tony came up to him and launched in with a full on snog. It took him by surprise, it was mind blowing but he couldn’t get caught up in the moment. What was this all about? This couldn’t be happening.

    He’d never really thought of him and Tony in that way because he’d never thought of Tony was gay. He’d always been the popular one, who had all girls running after him. Yes he was buff, but he’d never considered for one moment that…
    “Liked that didn’t you?”
    “What’s this all about Tone?”
    “I want to **** you. Upstairs do you, or do you want to be more adventurous?”
    All Maxxie could thing of was their friendship, how good it was and how he didn’t want anything to change that. He’d seen When Harry Meet Sally enough times, could you ever be friends again after you’ve slept with them? Knowing Tony this was just one of his power games, to see if he could pull a lad. It’d wouldn’t be anything meaningful, and he was sure as hell not going to ruin what they had because of it.

    He played it cool and walked away; they avoided talking about the issue for weeks to come. It all came to a ‘head’ on the Russia trip, Tony insisted sleeping together would only strengthen their friendship. “I’ll give you head – that’s friendship”. It happened, but he knew all along that it would eventually, Tony wouldn’t take no for an answer, he always got what he wanted. Maxxie has kept up the barriers for so long and tried his hardest to resist.

    By lying to him that his ‘head’ was crap, Maxxie thought he’d have been able to kept Tony away. But afterwards, when they were back in Bristol, and the whole thing had kicked off, he couldn’t stop thinking about their encounter, he was sure that there was more to this, it couldn’t just come down to a rushed blowjob in some grotty hostel. It was a few more weeks before they finally slept together, but hell was it worth the wait.

    * * *

    An hour or so later Maxxie walked Tony home, his dad had been pacing around the hallway for hours waiting for them to return, he was all set to give Maxxie a lecture but Anthea managed to calm him down. Tony asked if he could stay for a while, to help him with some coursework, and despite it getting late she agreed.

    Maxxie could barely keep his eyes open as he lay on Tony’s bed. Tony was sat at his computer desk struggling for the right word to put in his assignment. Maxxie half wanted to go home, but knew he had to stay and help Tony, if it got too late he’d just crash on the floor, or the bed if he was lucky.

    “Idea? Think? No. ****. Thought. That’s it. Thought”

    It was so tragic to see Tony in this state, he used to be the cleverist in the college, an Oxbridge candidate if ever there was one, and now he’d be lucky to scrape an offer anywhere. Soon enough Maxxie would be off to London, and he and Tony would be miles apart, so he figured he’d best make the most of the time they had left together.
    Admittedly after the accident, when Tony was lying in a coma, Maxxie wasn’t there for him. He’d left Sid to the bedside vigils, whilst he came to terms with what had happened. Their fling had only just started really, and this had happened. It was selfish for him to think this way, but was it over before it had begun? He managed to pull himself together though; it was a case of having to.

    When Tony came out the coma, he had none of his friends there for him. Sid had buckled under the pressure and spent all his time chained to his computer, hoping to catch a brief five minutes with Cassie on MSN. It was up to Maxxie to be there for Tony, the Tony whom he’d terrorised the nursery school teacher with back when they were one, the Tony whom he’d came out to, and the Tony whom he’d spent many a passionate night with.

    * * *

    They lay together on the bed, side by side. Nothing dirty, they just lay there.
    “Why do you do this Max?”
    “Do what?”
    “Take me out places, look after me”
    “Well someone has to, don’t they Tone?” joked Maxxie; uncomfortable with the way the conversation was going. He’d never been one for discussing emotions, he’d keep them bottled up inside or write them in his diary.
    “You don’t have to if you don’t want to”.
    “No. I want to” said Maxxie as he grabbed hold of Tony’s hand.
    “Thanks” came his heart felt response.

    At that moment Maxxie wished he could pour out his heart to Tony, tell him exactly how much he meant to him, how much he cherished every moment that they spent together, but he didn’t feel like now was the right time. The time would come, and even though he had no idea what Tony’s response would be, he knew it’d have to be said one day. He longed for Tony to get better, to return his former self, then everything would be a lot less complicated, but until then it was just them two, and no-one else. Yes they may only be friends at the moment, but he could live with that, after all friends are for life.

    You really do know Skins, don't you? That exactly what I would've imagined he'd have said to Maxxie.

    yeah i have a mini obsession with it! it so much! the thing is the character's are so well written that I feel like i know they inside and out, which is great when writing fan fics! I will probably write some more when I get the inspiration!
