I wrote this song fic. It's from Ruth's POV. A year from now. A diary entry. It's not that great.

February 2nd 2009. It’s been a year now. It’s been hard, but, I’m getting there. Eventually. Thanks to him.

With Toby though none of it seems to matter. The sounds are more, whispers. Whispers of a distant memory.

He doesn’t have to say anything. Just the thought of his arms wrapped up snuggly around me is enough. I feel safe. I feel happy. Something I didn’t think I could feel again. Something I haven’t felt since I was a child.

I never thought that I'd love anyone so much
He told me he loved me the other day you know. We were taking a stroll. Something my councillor said would help keep my spirits up. We were taking a stroll. My hand clasped within his. When he turned to me. He looked me straight in the eye and said it. “Ruth, I er, I do love you ya know.” In true Toby fashion. May not be the most romantic of ways to say it, but for me it was. No-one had ever said that to me. Not in that way. I couldn’t say it back though. It’s not that I don’t feel that way. Just, I’m not ready. Toby understands though. He’s willing to wait. He sure is a keeper.

Well there’s nothing more to say for today. Let’s just say this has been the best few months of my life. I can’t even remember why I did what I did. It all just seems so.. Silly now. Now that I have Toby in my life. That’s all I need. Toby, myself and my job. But I’ve learnt not to let my job run my life. From now on it’s on my terms. My terms only. I'm Ruth. I'm home.
