EastEnders will be saying goodbye to Aaron Sidwell following explosive scenes airing this summer.
There had been speculation all week of a major departure since the cast attended a mysterious leaving party, and now the BBC is confirming that Aaron will soon be leaving his role as Steven Beale. For the record, our prediction was right on the money.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed to Digital Spy: "Aaron Sidwell is part of one of the big upcoming storylines and we can confirm, following dramatic scenes to be aired later this summer, he will be leaving the show. We wish Aaron all the very best for the future."
As you can see, the BBC isn't giving any specifics about how Steven Beale will exit Albert Square but it's possible his ongoing lies to Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) may have some significant consequences.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Steven will become embroiled in Max Branning's (Jake Wood) latest scheme to ensure Max will protect his lie that he only has three months to live.
Steven will be pushed to breaking point, forcing him to come clean with his fling Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) that he's truly in love with her sister Lauren.
As for why he's leaving the soap, The Sun reports that Aaron is interested in pursuing a role in the West End production of the Wizard of Oz-inspired musical Wicked.
Aaron made his return to EastEnders in 2016 after an eight-year break, in which time he starred on the stage in American Idiot, Ghost: The Musical and Romeo and Juliet in productions across the UK.

does he die in explosion week starting 4th sept
The end is nigh for Steven Beale in EastEnders as the soap kicks off its biggest ever week of drama involving gas explosions, crashes, shootings and death. And Aaron Sidwell’s troubled and warped character is right at the centre of it all as he is manipulated by Max Branning into committing deplorable acts.
In a horrific week, Jane discovers the truth about Steven’s brain tumour lie and Max’s revenge plot and Steven is instructed by Max to deal with her permanently. What follows is a dramatic struggle in Beale’s which leads to Steven setting fire to the restaurant with Jane inside.
As Steven battles with his conscience and the blaze spirals out of control, it’s a life or death situation and the question is – will Steven really leave Jane to die or will his conscience take over and cause him to run into the inferno to save her, potentially bringing about his own demise?
