    Susan falls asleep at the wheel

    Elle tells Paul of her concerns about Nick and Laura’s honesty and is outraged when he continues to give Laura the benefit of the doubt, his need for redemption over-riding all else. Much to Elle’s shock Paul invites Laura and Nick into their home, intending to suss out how much coercion Nick is exerting on Laura. With her conscience getting the better of her, Laura wants to put a stop to their ruse but Nick is more determined than ever to extort money, especially when he learns about Oliver’s wealthy connections….

    Having fought fatigue all day, Susan is annoyed when she discovers the family have left to go to Rachel’s Advanced Literature orientation meeting without her. Flustered, she races from the house. Driving to catch up with her family, Susan falls asleep at the wheel for a few vital seconds and her vehicle careers into one of her neighbours….

    Stung by Steve’s silent treatment, Bridget is desperate to mend her relationship with her parents and promises not to see Declan again. However, Miranda discovers a text message from Declan on Bridget’s phone and mother and daughter end up having a huge falling out. Responding to Declan’s pleas, Bridget finally relents and agrees to see him. Despite her feelings for him she tells him they mustn’t see each other again. Declan is hurt and angry that Bridget has chosen her relationship with her family over him. Their discussion escalates into an argument, Declan says some harsh words and Bridget flees their meeting. Blinded by tears, Bridget unwittingly puts herself in the path of a car driven by Susan as it careers out of control….

    Nick unveils his kidnap plan
    Airs on Tuesday, January 15 2008 at 17:35 GMT on BBC One


    Annoyed by their daughter’s apparent disregard for their rules, Steve leaves a bitter message on Bridget’s phone. Blaming Declan for Bridget’s behaviour, Steve confronts him. The conflict between the Parkers and the Napiers escalates with Steve accusing Declan of being a thug and demanding Rebecca control her wayward son. Declan is mortified by the public berating and Nick seizes the opportunity to ‘befriend’ Declan for his own gain. Laura’s shocked when Nick unveils his plan to kidnap Declan – and force big brother Oliver to come up with the ransom…

    Distressed Mickey discovers Bridget on the side of the road and sees Declan’s car drive from the scene. Karl, Rachel and Zeke arrive and all wait anxiously for the ambulance as Karl takes action to maintain Bridget’s life. Miranda and Steve rush to their daughter’s side, overwhelmed with shock and grief as their daughter is rushed to hospital. Susan returns home, ignorant of the tragic accident she has caused. When Rachel and Zeke arrive home, Susan’s appalled to hear news of the hit and run.

    At the hospital, Mickey seemingly identifies the hit and run culprit when he confides in Ned and Janae - he saw Declan’s car speeding away from the crime scene…

    Bridget undergoes major surgery

    The Parker family unite in grief as Bridget undergoes emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain. Ned and Janae are shocked by Mickey’s eyewitness report that Declan’s car fled the crime-scene. They inform the police who begin their investigation.

    Miranda takes comfort in Susan’s support – but Susan is rocked by the revelation that Declan was responsible for the accident. As the day unfolds, Susan comes to the sickening realisation that she caused the accident that has left Bridget clinging to life...

    Accused of hurting Bridget, Declan’s devastated and goes on the run. As Paul and Rebecca worry over his whereabouts, Declan finds an ally in Nick – who installs the runaway into his hotel room and informs Laura that their kidnap plan is back on – and they didn’t have to lift a finger!

    Susan hands herself in

    The Parkers desperately cling to hope despite the fact that Bridget’s still unable to breathe without the aid of the ventilator. Despite Karl’s misgivings, Susan has no choice but to confess to the Parkers her part in their daughter’s tragic accident. Miranda lashes out at Susan and devastated, Karl and Susan head for the police station where Susan gives herself over to be formally charged.

    Unable to put the embarrassment of her attempted kiss with Adam behind her, Sophie wants to end their working partnership. Adam and Pepper are worried, as they know it may look like Adam still has unresolved issues at work.

    Oliver’s devastated to learn Declan has been accused of Bridget’s hit and run. He searches for his brother, with Carmella’s help, unaware he’s being held in his very own hotel by two reluctant criminals…

    Paul rumbles the kidnapping plan
    Airs on Friday, January 18 2008 at 17:35 GMT on BBC One


    Oliver, Rebecca and Paul are horrified to learn that Declan has been kidnapped. Paul’s desperate to involve the police but Oliver wants to play by the kidnapper’s rules. Paul gets his chance when Adam unexpectedly calls in to tell them Declan is no longer a suspect of the hit and run. But Paul gives into Rebecca’s silent pleas, which only sparks curiosity in vigilant Adam.

    Declan realises the dire situation he has unwittingly landed himself in when Nick keeps him captive in the hotel room. Laura is ill-prepared when Paul (working on a hunch) busts their kidnapping scam. Panicked, she knocks Paul out, who later wakes to find that Nick, Laura and Declan have vanished.

    Susan is processed at the police station, and the enormity of her situation sinks in. Toadie vows to get her off, but Susan wants to be punished for her negligence. Karl has to tell the kids what has happened, and they insist on supporting Susan by coming to pick her up when she is released. But Susan still has to face the hardest test – returning to Ramsay Street.

    Valda’s enthusiasm for her ‘online lingerie’ venture spurs Carmella into considering an online investment of her own. She hopes the project will expand her fruit business and provide a secure future for her unborn child. Valda couldn’t be happier with her new recruit, but wary Harold hopes that she knows what she’s getting her friends into.
