Just when you thought Nicola Blackstock – or De Souza – couldn’t get any more nasty or manipulative, she goes and proves you wrong.
The vicious blonde, who’s currently doing her utmost to get her claws into David Metcalfe, has managed to convince us all that her late husband, Douglas, is six feet under, having left her his millions.
However, he’s not dead. Not yet, anyway.
Nicola Wheeler, who plays her namesake in the show, talked exclusively to itv.com about the situation.
“Nicola’s husband went into a coma after having a brain haemorrhage,” explained the actress. “Nicola’s keeping him alive because there’s a proviso in the will that if Douglas’ alcoholic son Miles - who’s meant to inherit everything – is still drinking when he dies, Nicola will get all the money.
“So Nicola is determined to prove that Miles is still drinking and only then will she let the nurses switch off her husband’s life support.
“But Miles has disappeared and Nicola has sent a photographer to go and find him and get evidence that he’s still off the wagon.”
Matters get more complicated when Jasmine finds out that Nicola’s husband is still alive and tells David. And David gets roped in to his boss’s cunning plan.
“David’s more concerned about what will happen to him and the business if Douglas comes back,” said Nicola. So he agrees to help her.”
But Jasmine – determined not to let her nemesis get away with it – finds Miles and tries to get him back on the wagon so that Nicola won’t see a penny.
“Nothing is ever straight forward for her,” said Nicola. “Nicola only ever thinks of Plan A, she never thinks of Plan B or Plan C. She makes me laugh because in other ways she’s so shrewd.”
When another spanner is thrown into the works, Nicola is forced to buy David off, offering him a percentage of whatever she inherits in exchange for his help.
