im sure they did offer plenty of dosh.!! I can't
say I blame him for accepting.
As far as character is concerned-
being the "favourite" can be a mixed blessing.
Doesnt mean he loved his father or that he
couldn't see all his fathers faults and have been
the victim of some.Or become subject of siblings
resentment.
Jim was a drunkard for years -which means
he lost all power of discernment over his
actions and wouldnt have any clear memory
of them!
Sometimes "the favourite" holds the parent in
deep contempt - that being such is an insult
to them. Also there was Jims treatment of
his wife Renee over many years which can
affect the childs opinion of the father more
than bad treatment of themselves!
Where the is bad treatment of a group
of people by an individual - their anger /
resentment isnt always in the same proportions
as the way they were treated!
i.e. some complain more and others deal with
the matter in other ways.
Not a very Christmassy subject - but no simple
answers either! Jim was still alive when Jack
left - perhaps the subject will be looked at with
a different perspective now ?!

I think Jack's explanation that he couldn't face the funeral was reasonable (if not particularly in character), and at least he paid his respects at the scattering of the ashes.
I still find it strange that Scott Maslen couldn't bring himself to return to film a few scenes at Jim's funeral, given it was also John Bardon's send off and they'd worked closely together for years. You must be right lizann that he was offered a lot more money this time.

EastEnders' Christmas Eve episode ended in a shock as Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) returned to the Square to surprise ex-wife Ronnie (Samantha Womack), and now the actor has confirmed that his character is sticking around for good.
Speaking of his return, Maslen said that he was "really excited" to be back in Albert Square.
"I'm looking forward to working with Dominic [Treadwell-Collins]. I worked with him before when he was a storyliner there," said Maslen.
"I'm really looking forward to working with him and the newer faces. There's so many exciting things going on at the minute.
"It was like I hadn't left. It felt a bit strange because there are new characters who I don't know - but that fits with the story.
"When you go away for a while and come back, there's always new people you gotta get to know and that's part of the fun of it. It felt great!"
Maslen also opened up about the popularity of his and Ronnie's relationship, adding that he'd love to see the couple get back together in the future.
"One of the things I've learnt while I've been away is that people don't forget about Jack and Ronnie, and they're constantly wanting Jack and Ronnie back together," he added.
"It's a bonus to have that because it means people like what me and Sam do. We enjoy working together and we have a lot of fun which is so important. I'm looking forward to spending more time with her."
But just how much time will he be spending with Womack as he films future episodes? Well, a lot, seeing as he'll be sticking around permanently in the new year.
"I'm back for a few episodes," the actor confirmed, "but then I'm back properly from January."
Maslen originally played the role of Jack from 2007 until he quit the soap in 2013.
I hope we hear or see Jack visiting Max
