Cool Cherie's dad to Tramp the DAles

TONY Blair’s father-in-law is to star in Emmerdale — as a TRAMP.

Tony Booth, 75, will play a mysterious down-and-out called Errol in the rural soap.

Errol befriends desperate Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) — who questions whether the tramp really exists, as no one else has seen him.

ITV1 bosses say the “magical” scenes echo classic movie It’s A Wonderful Life — which featured a guardian angel guiding a confused character.

Cherie Blair’s dad Tony will film seven episodes next month.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it — the scripts are terrific.

“I hope viewers will warm to my character as much as I have, and be enchanted by his ethereal quality.”

It is the SECOND time the dad of eight has played a tramp in a soap. He was homeless Nobby Stuart in EastEnders in 2003.

The Liverpudlian actor shot to fame as Alf Garnett’s lippy Scouse son-in-law in 1960s TV comedy classic Till Death Us Do Part.

He is wed to fourth wife Stephanie Buckley, but his exes include late Coronation Street legend Pat Phoenix.

Emmerdale producer Kathleen Beedles said: “Tony is the perfect choice for this storyline.”

The scenes will be shown in May.

Probably Shadrach's father. Some poor nurse has to brave getting near to Shadders, just to get a strand of DNA.

I remember him marrying Mrs E Tanner just before she died.

Let's hope his acting performance is as convincing as his son-in-law....
