Whenever I go out now I am constantly looking at cars and which one I like etc... ready to get one haha Just need to go and get a job, save up and learn to drive first LOL!

Well today Dad got me the book and theory disk Now to start reading and learning!

I'm going to do that soon.. may as well do something remotely productive with the rest of the summer. Hope it doesn't all go out of my head by the time I start learning though as I still have about 5 months to wait.

i should really start learning at some point! but i dont wanna learn at uni cos all the roads are really hectic and busy. ill just have to wait til i finish uni i suppose, hopefully ill be able to afford it then too!

I think learning to drive in the UK is much better in Ireland, it seems much quicker.

I started driving over 3 and a half years ago. This is also how long it has been since I passed my theory test. I then applied for my driving test over a year and a half ago, I got notice of my test in May, but I wasn't going to be in the country so I cancelled it. Another 12 weeks passed and I got another date. I had my test on tuesday just gone, and I passed.

What I would advise is to read the book first and then use the cd-rom to test yourself. This is how I passed my theory test, and then in preparation for the driving test take loads and loads of lessons. Really try and practice as much as you can. It will all be worth it in the end.

I have a medical condition and I always say to people, "If I can do it, so can you."

My driving instructor informed me I am too difficult to teach... I am awkward behind the steering wheel... no surprises there! I haven't got anywhere with my lessons at all.. I can't even keep the car straight on the road, oh well..

My dad said to try again next year when I'm more mature.. :s but what difference is that gonna make! He's going to try teaching me he said, so I don't know, I will give it a shot again in the future!

Congratulations Babs! I have a medical condition too which makes it more difficult .. but on the dyspraxia site, it has specialist driving instructors and they let you learn in automatic cars so I might try that if getting taught by my dad doesn't work - I am determined to get it in the end!!

When I started I couldn't master the wheel at all. You just the confidence in yourself. I would recommend trying to learn in an automatic, even just to see how you get on in it.

Don't put it off, because you'll only think about it more. I know your dad is only looking out for you. My parents never had much patience with me when I started learning, but to be honest you just have to keep trying. You will get there in the end, and it will all be worth it.

babs - that's exactly what I have my main problem with - the steering wheel! Turning it and just using it was all goohhy gahh to me! lol .. thanks

Good on you, Dave. You shouldn't let one instructor put you off. My old taxi driver claims that he used to be a driving instructor and said I'd never get a provisional as I'm disabled I'm sure there are people out there who have passed with far worse disabilities than I have. I'm sure you'll do better with your dad or a specialist instructor who would be better able to understand how dyspraxia affects you and have more patience to teach you.
