California Heaven - Online Soap
I've recently learned about a new(ish) online soap opera called California Heaven. The catch is that the show is shot in the style of a traditional primetime soap opera but it is only aired on the web. The show has finished its first full season and season two is set to start in June. Each week an episode is posted to watch in either Quicktime or Windows Media format. You can watch the current episode each week for free, but to watch past episodes you have to purchase them. The complete collection of season 1 episodes is available through Google Video. The first season episodes will also be re-aired (one episode per week), on the website, starting Wednesday, April 12. This is the perfect time to discover California Heaven from the beginning.
The storylines are really quite good, and the series centers around the trappings of a wealthy Malibu family who own the largest chain of surf shops in the nation. One of the the most unique things about California Heaven is the interactivity that brings you into being a part of the experience. This happens via daily blogs posted by the characters, message boards that the characters post on and your ability to respond and be a part of it all, taking full advantage of the opportunities for interactivity offered to us by the very nature of the internet. It's almost like falling down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland. Very cool!
