Geordie actor Tim Healy has joined the cast of Coronation Street. The veteran actor – who provided the voice of “Rocky Robin” in the biscuit commercials – will play Brian Tully, the father of barman Sean. Oh, and we suppose we really ought to mention that Tim starred as Auf Wiedersehen Pet’s Dennis Patterson and is married to Denise Welch, better known as erstwhile Rovers Return landlady Natalie.
Father and son will be reunited at the funeral of Sean’s aunt - and Brian had better prepare himself for a big shock. “Sean’s forced into making contact with his dad and it opens a whole can of worms,” gossiped a show insider. “Brian doesn’t even know Sean is gay.”
And it’s not Tim’s first appearance on the Street. “I appeared on the show in 1976 as a bingo caller in a scene with Hilda Ogden, so to come back 30 years later is fantastic,” says Tim, who will be on-screen from Monday, June 5 and has provisionally signed for a seven-episode stint.
