Davinia Taylor is making a comeback to Hollyoaks after an 18-year absence.

The actress is due to film scenes as her wild child character Jude Cunningham this summer for a major storyline airing in the autumn.

"I am desperate to see what on earth she has been doing for the past 18 years and what trouble she will no doubt cause when she returns to the village," Davinia said (via The Mirror).

"I'm looking forward to seeing cast and crew that I used to work with and being reunited with my old mate Stephanie Waring as well as Jimmy McKenna and Nick Pickard, and meeting all the on and off screen talent who work on the show now."

Jude Cunningham, sister of Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring), was last seen fleeing the streets of Chester when a jewellery heist went awry all the way back in 1998.

Taylor's ties to the soap opera date back to 1996, just one year after it premiered on Channel 4.

Hollyoaks bosses have revealed some sneaky new teasers about Jude Cunningham's shock return to the show.

It was announced yesterday that Davinia Taylor will be reprising her role as Cindy's sister Jude after a whopping 18 years away from the Channel 4 soap.

Show chiefs are now building up the anticipation by hinting that Jude could have an ulterior motive for returning to the village.

She'll also be clashing with schemer Marnie Nightingale, who's caused problems for Cindy since her arrival earlier this year.

A Hollyoaks spokesperson revealed: "The residents of Hollyoaks are in for a shock when a familiar face returns in style to bring a touch of class to the village - Jude Cunningham. She's the girl with a heart of gold whose luxurious lifestyle dazzled Cindy, who's always put her big sister on a pedestal.

"To Cindy's delight, Jude is more than a match for her arch-nemesis Marnie, but just like Cindy, Jude always had a knack for causing chaos wherever she goes. Is her return really all it seems?"

Hollyoaks' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood added: "Davinia's portrayal of Jude Cunningham made her one of my favourite ever Hollyoaks characters; the original bad girl, Cindy's big sister and a bona fide star.

"Jude has been on the run in Spain and Davinia has kept an equally low profile, so I am delighted that both are going to be back in the spotlight. Long-standing viewers and new ones alike are in for a real treat."

Jude's return scenes will air on Hollyoaks this autumn, so there's still a while to wait before we find out exactly what she has in store for the unsuspecting villagers.

Taylor revealed: "I'm thrilled to be going back into Hollyoaks and bringing Jude back. I am desperate to see what on earth she has been doing for the past 18 years and what trouble she will no doubt cause!"

It’s been 18 years since Hollyoaks fans last laid eyes on the formidable superbitch that is Jude Cunningham – but Davinia Taylor has finally reprised the role much to the delight of everyone, including us!
As Jude returns as troublesome as ever, there is big drama ahead as she attempts to scam the villagers – and then takes centre stage at the Halloween spectacular that will feature the annual October stunt.
We caught up with Davinia to talk about how the return came about, how much Hollyoaks has changed, how her kids react to her fame and the perils of social media.
So you’re back! How did it all come about?
It came about quite accidentally! The casting guy just dropped me a line – I don’t know how he got my number – and I got a text at teatime. I’ve got four boys so teatime is the worst time – it’s chaos. I looked at my phone and said ‘I’ve just had the weirdest most random text’. I’ve just had my fourth son and didn’t think in a million years that I’d come back, hence the name! [Davinia’s youngest son is called Jude]

So I said ‘they’ve asked me to go back to Hollyoaks!’ and my nine-year-old said: ‘What’s that?’ I said ‘it’s a TV show’ and he said ‘What, you!?’ He was like ‘you don’t do anything!’ so I thought ‘sod it, I’ll go back – make your own lasagne!’
Is she as fierce and bitchy as we remember?
Absolutely – if not more! But extremely loyal with it.
Stephanie Waring: Hang on, hang on – don’t you try and stitch me up somewhere along the way?
    Davinia: Well yes
Stephanie: Yes, there you go, so you can scrap the loyalty bit!
How did you feel when you got that message?
Davinia: I was kind of amused really because it’s been so many years since I was in it and it was out of the blue. When you’re a full time mum, you’re constantly in that zone and doing breastfeeding and having a lot of boredom too! Box set after box set – I was just in my ivory tower with my baby and was really ready to get out of that zone because the next step is menopause and that’s it for me!

It was a breath of fresh air and it’s been absolutely wonderful. It has surpassed all of my expectations and given me a new lease of life. It’s exciting being around people who are adults – I actually race out the door in the morning and shout ‘BYE!’ Like this morning, I was lying in bed with the baby and heard this singing outside the door. I opened up the door and there was my 2-year-old without his nappy on, just smeared in poo so I just sorted it quickly then went ‘I’m off to work, bye!’
Is it different to when you were last here?
Yes a lot different and so much more manageable now. When I was last in it I was doing a lot more socialising – which you do because you’re 18 and you have zero responsibility. The guys here are far more mature than we were!
Stephanie: We didn’t have the glare of social media or the internet…
Davinia: Yeah, we just about had gas powered mobile phones! We had those banana ones that you had to turn off during the day to use it at night!
Stephanie: I’d quite happily go back to that time – it’s amazing in some ways but there’s so much pressure in this industry. I remember a few years ago that I had never been on the internet before and then ventured onto a forum and was seeing all these trolls obliterating my acting. It was a simpler time but we could get up to more mischief!
Davinia: It’s fascinating – I don’t do Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or anything. I’ve got a WhatsApp group for my friends and one for my close relatives and that’s it. When the digital team come down to record, it’s like: ‘You’re going to have to slow down. What am I doing? How many people are watching this, then? How many million? What!?’ So it’s fascinating but I’m comfortable in my acting bubble.
What was the first day back on set like?
Davinia: So many of the crew are still the same – it’s like ‘are you still here?’ ‘Yeah babe, I’m still here!’ It’s fantastic!
Stephanie: The first scene was at the flats – it’s the best set!
Davinia: It was awful, it’s tiny!
Stephanie: It’s the best set in winter because it’s warm and you get a heater.
Davinia: You have this thing about heat haven’t you? We did this scene for the new titles on the wall and it was July and she went: ‘can I have a hot water bottle please? You know the one that I like?’ and I was like ‘Oh my god, diva behaviour!’ Two weeks later on a night shoot, I did the same, it’s nice to be looked after.
What I find really difficult is walking and talking at the same time which is fundamental, which I couldn’t seem to do. But it was easy to get back into the facial expressions and everything but here we just use the one camera, it’s not like EastEnders or something where they use a few and just film the one take.
We have to do every shot, we have to remember where we put the glass down and at what angle. I was like: ‘You want me to walk up, take a sip AND act? Twice? What are you talking about?’ The camera awareness gave me a bit of stage fright too but it’s been so good. The scripts are so much more contemporary now.
What was the first week like?

Davinia: So I went into make up and then slam, it was on, hair in rollers and everything – I just didn’t feel right. I come home from work and the kids say I look so weird and angry which is because of the eyebrows!
Will any of your famous friends be watching?
Davinia: I won’t be asking them or anything because it’s really embarrassing watching yourself on TV. Some people have like first episode parties but I won’t be doing that, I will be under a pillow, full on cringe. I hate watching myself on TV.
Has it opened your kids’ eyes to the fact you were really famous?
Davinia: No, I’d love to obliterate that history! It’s a family show but it does touch on some subjects that even the other soaps don’t – it’s so tough being a teenager these days. It’s a very positive show but they’ll probably just be mortified that I’m on TV.
Is that part of why you are glad social media wasn’t around back then?
Davinia: Yeah, it’s a shame there’s so much pressure on teenagers with social media, it’s a shame there’s no pause or edit button on it all. You don’t have to be famous to have problems on social media, it affects everyone and it’s on there forever and the things you say when you’re 15 are not necessarily what you’d say when you’re 25 or 35.
    What brings Jude back?

Davinia: Money! It’s always about money with Jude and it’s all very ruthless. She’s after mega bucks and doesn’t care who she might hurt along the way. She’s got a proper development scam going on with the residents of Hollyoaks.
Stephanie: That’s why Cindy is the way that she is today – she learned from the best! She tries to be like her big sister as she has always had her on a pedestal and found who she is through her.
Having Davinia back is amazing, part of the jigsaw has been put back. We were like best friends and it’s like she’s never been away and we can talk about very different things now.
