    22nd-27th January

Steph feels she is the underdog
    Airing Sunday, 22nd January 2006 at 19:00 on ITV1

In the Woolpack at Betty’s birthday party, Steph is left feeling second best when Terence gets on well with everyone and even takes to the piano to sing Happy Birthday. Alone with Adam, an upset Steph wonders if her childhood admiration of Terence initiated or prolonged the abuse. Dismayed, Adam tries to assure Steph that victims often feel like they’re to blame but it’s unjustified. Determined, Steph informs Adam the abuse happened a long time ago and she intends to lock it away in her mind forever.

Sam prepares to visit Alice in hospital but when his van won’t start he becomes frustrated and angry. Zak attempts to calm him down but Sam panics that with the van out of action and the unreliable bus service, he may not be able to get to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Laurel tells Ashley that Jasmine’s parents have been in touch and there is no way they can come back to England at the moment. They have asked if Ashley could take care of finding Jasmine another boarding school. Ashley cannot believe his brother’s lack of interest in his daughter’s welfare but will he agree to help?

    Airing Monday, 23rd January 2006 at 19:00 on ITV1

When Ashley breaks the news to Jasmine that her parents are not returning, Jasmine asks if she can stay and go to school locally. When Ashley hesitates, unsure, Jasmine assumes he doesn’t want her either and feeling upset, she leaves to be alone. Laurel is aghast at Ashley’s insensitivity and insists that she is happy to be a guardian to Jasmine. Will she be able to change Ashley’s mind?

Meanwhile, Sam returns home from hospital with Alice. Lisa tells Sam and Alice about preparations the Dingles will need to make in the house for Samson’s homecoming. Tired from the upheaval of coming home, Alice is touched by the Dingles’ enthusiastic plans but is clearly very frail.

Elsewhere, Nicola opens up to Laurel, stating she knows she’s being silly about Ivan but can’t get him out of her head, especially as the spark between her and Simon has petered out. Sensible Laurel urges Nicola to stick it out with Simon if she still loves him. Will Nicola follow her friend’s advice?

Nicola knows that Simon has refused Rodney’s cash before but given their recent arguments over money, hopes that he will accept the cheque for the state of their relationship. Will Simon accept the money to help his relationship with Nicola get back on track?

Meanwhile, Jasmine tells Debbie that Ashley has changed his mind and agreed to let her stay at the vicarage and attend Hotten comprehensive school. Debbie feels a pang of envy, knowing she’s ruined her own academic opportunities and realising how different she is to Jasmine.

Turner invites Terence to live with him

Simon receives a surprise visit from his old flame Natasha Abbott. Later, Simon reveals to Lesley that Tash is in a position to pay him back the £3,000 that she owes him and has also insisted that he accept an additional £2,000 as a thank you. Thinking the money will ease their relationship problems, Lesley urges Simon to tell Nicola. Will he listen to his mother’s advice?

Meanwhile, Terence has been offered a job with the Kings and ponders where to live. Turner feels that he may have outstayed his welcome at Betty’s and reveals that he’s considering buying Tug Ghyll, inviting Terence to live with him. How will Steph react to this news?

Elsewhere, Pearl is shocked when her estranged grandson Owen turns up in the café after a ten year absence. Owen admits that he hasn’t told his mum where he is, but that he just wanted to see his Nana. After calling his mum, Pearl reports that she wants Owen back on the next flight to Hong Kong, but will she be able to persuade him to return?

    Steph lashes out at Adam
    Airing Thursday, 26th January 2006 at 19:00 on ITV1

After a run-in with Terence, Steph lashes out at Adam. She claims that Adam’s responsible for dragging up the abuse she had fought to keep hidden. Adam is angry and tells her that he is sick of her mood swings. Stunned, Steph suspects that Adam is doubting her story and orders him out.

Elsewhere, Simon admits to Lesley that Nicola’s materialism is getting to him and he wishes they just had a relationship based on love, rather than money. Lesley urges him to face his problems and not give up on his wife-to- be but will Simon be convinced?

Meanwhile Owen tells Len and Pearl that he is desperate to know more about his dad and would like to visit his grave. Pearl is stunned that Owen thinks his father is dead but will she tell him the truth?

    Terence threatens Steph
    Airing Friday, 27th January 2006 at 19:00 on ITV1

Betty manages to stop Steph from leaving the village for good when she tentatively states that if there is any truth in her abuse claim, Terence will have won if she runs. Sensing Betty has some doubts about Terence, Steph gains strength and tracks Terence down.

Refusing to allow him to control her life, Steph threatens to tell the village what he did to her as a child unless he leaves. Claiming that Terence’s charm is already wearing thin, Steph believes Betty has seen through him and others will too. Thrown about Betty and worried about people overhearing, Terence threatens that it was a long time ago and that she should have got over it by now. Will he be able to keep Steph quiet?

Meanwhile Nicola has organised a budget-friendly DVD night in for her and Simon. Nicola tells Simon she is hopeful that their relationship has turned a corner. Will Simon agree?

Elsewhere, Pearl decides to tell Owen the truth about his dad. Pearl explains to Owen that Frank spent a lot of time in prison and that he was kept in the dark by his mum to avoid getting a hard time at school. How will Owen react to the news?
