Barry killed Kim's mother while he was trying to stop her drowning Kim. She was suffering psychosis, and she also drowned Kim's brother Jonothan, Barry came home from work early, and found her drowning Kim, so he grabbed Kim, and pushed Kerry under the water. Barry does not go to jail as kim feels he's been through enough.
The letter is a confession to kim from barry (not sure if this is true)

ooooo this sounds welllllll goood storylines coming up in home and away !!! i cant wait for these storylines!! when does kim find out he's not the dad of hayleys baby afterall ? that must double his pain bless him...finding out bout his mother trying to drown him (mother? - im confused with that bit) and then he's not really the father poor kim
