EastEnders star Shane Ritchie is set to star in a musical based on the 1975 hit film Monty Python and The Holy Grail, when he quits the soap at Christmas.
Ritchie, who plays lovable Alfie Moon in Albert Square, will trade the role to don the chainmail and star in Spamalot, after being invited by the show's writer Eric Idle.
The show is currently a huge hit on Broadway, with Tim Curry and David Hyde Pierce (Niles from Frasier) as its star turns, but Idle thinks Ritchie is the man to take things even further.
"He will do the audition as soon as he can," a source told The Sun.
"Eric wants him on board and just has to prove to the others that Shane is the right man."
