Meanwhile, Killing Eve's Manpreet Bachu will also be heading to the emergency department alongside actress and comedian Sammy T Dobson.

The pair have been cast as junior doctors Tariq Hussein and Nicole Piper, with Tariq being the cousin of established character, resident doctor Rash Masum (Neet Mohan).

Bachu is best known for his role as Elliot in season four of Killing Eve, and has also appeared in DI Ray and The Royals.

Dobson appeared to tease the big news on Instagram Stories, sharing a photo of herself in what looked like scrubs alongside the caption: "I have exciting news I can finally share tomorrow.

"I think this is the longest secret I've ever kept apart from the one about my tail. Ah f**k."

The actors will make their on-screen debut in February and March.

The new additions come after a series of exits from the soap, with Nigel Harman and long-running star Derek Thompson set to leave their roles as Max Cristie and Charlie Fairhead this year.
