EastEnders is bringing in a familiar face from Weatherfield in the form of Samantha Seager.

Via The Sun, the former Coronation Street actress, who played Jodie Morton throughout 2007, will play Detective Sergeant Miles in the BBC One soap.

Turning up for several episodes, DS Miles arrives at a pivotal time in the Suki and Nish Panesar drama as Nish is suspected of attacking Suki.

EastEnders declined to make an official comment on the casting, but it is expected that Seager's character will be seen on Albert Square during next week's episodes.

Earlier this week, Suki told husband Nish that their marriage was over, while admitting that she was the one who reported him to the police.

Later on, Suki explained everything to her lover Eve Unwin, promising freedom was still on the cards that night.

But a cliffhanger ensued as Vinny discovered his mum unconscious at the bottom of the stairs with an enraged Nish staring down at her.

Thursday's episode saw Suki rushed to hospital, with Eve convinced that Nish was behind the incident as she feared for Suki's safety.

Next week's scenes will see Nish being questioned by police, before being arrested ? though it's unclear at this point whether Nish was responsible for what happened to Suki.

"I think we've seen that Nish is capable of anything," Navin Chowdhry, who plays Nish, recently said. "This is a man who went to jail for 20 years and effectively lost the best years of his family life.

"When Nish gets arrested I think he's shocked. Regardless of how innocent or guilty he might be, he does things in a particular way where there's no reason to doubt him and so for the police to get any kind of hint that he might be at fault here or that he might be guilty is horrific for him."
