Nigel Harman joins Casualty as Max

Former EastEnders star Nigel Harman has joined the cast of Casualty for a storyline set to air next year.

The actor, most known for his role as Dennis Rickman in the BBC One soap, will play the role of Max and has reportedly signed a big contract to join the medical drama.

?Nigel has signed a one-year contract with the show. It?s really exciting. Producers are thrilled to have such a big name joining the cast?, an insider told the Daily Star.

?Max is really going to ruffle feathers. He is a loveable rogue who isn?t afraid to say what he thinks. The writers have got some really big storylines planned for this character. He?s going to be at the centre of the action.?

Former EastEnders star Nigel Harman is reportedly set to appear in Casualty.

The actor, who famously played Dennis Rickman on Albert Square between 2003 and 2005, is apparently being lined up to play a new staff member called Max.

The Daily Star reports that Harman has already started filming, with his scenes slated to air next year ? however, nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet.

The BBC declined to comment on the report when contacted by Digital Spy.

Since his famous appearance on EastEnders, Harman has featured in the likes of Downton Abbey, Hotel Babylon, Mount Pleasant and Cuckoo.

Meanwhile, in other Casualty news, actor George Rainsford has recently sparked speculation that he could be exiting the show as Ethan Hardy after eight years in the role.

He initially worried fans after praising director Duncan Foster, tweeting: "Lovely last [episode] of Casualty. Some gorgeous shots (relatives' room through the window, post crash birds-eye view etc!)".

George added in response to Duncan saying he would be back in November: "Glad they've got you back, I won't be around then! Until next time!"

In a separate post, the actor revealed he was clearing out his dressing room, while in another he shared a bobblehead figure of his character, saying: "Immortalised in toy form! What a keepsake. Thank you @ironmintstudio and Casualty. Very pleased they got my head-to-body size ratio spot on! #bobblehead #EthanHardy".

Casualty has confirmed ex-EastEnders star Nigel Harman is joining the show as new clinical lead Max Cristie.

Max is full of confidence as he arrives on the ward, yet he's immediately put on the back-foot when he comes face-to-face with someone from his past.

As the weeks go by, it will be revealed that Max has a long history with Dylan Keogh dating back to medical school, yet he has no time to process the reunion when he's thrown into a life-or-death case.

"I'm honoured and grateful to be joining the cast of Casualty," the actor said. "Many pals have donned the famous scrubs over the years and had a ball, so for me it was an easy decision. With Max the viewers can expect a character who leads with his heart and not always his head. Never afraid to get in a scrape or two, yet loyal to the end even if it means putting himself in danger."

Harman is already filming on the BBC One continuing drama and will be making his first appearance as Max later this month.

The veteran TV actor is perhaps best known for playing Sharon Watts' long-time love Dennis Rickman in EastEnders throughout the early 2000s.

Other notable roles have been in Hotel Babylon and Downton Abbey, as well as notable stage roles in Shrek The Musical, I Can't Sing! The X Factor Musical and Big Fish.

Executive Producer for BBC Studios, Jon Sen, announced the actor's Casualty casting: "We are thrilled to be welcoming Nigel to the cast of Casualty. When we conceived the character of Max we knew we needed an actor with craft, charm and charisma and we approached Nigel knowing he'd be the perfect choice.

"We were over the moon when he agreed to play the role and from what we've seen so far, Nigel's creating an iconic character who is set to stir things up within the Emergency Department. We can't wait for the audience to meet Max."
