    Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours introduces former Home and Away star Esther Anderson for her guest role on the show next week.

The actress recently announced that she'd been filming for the long-running Ramsay Street soap, but details of her character were kept under wraps at the time.

Esther's first scenes will air on Thursday, May 5 on Channel 5 in the UK.

She has been cast in the role of Dr Sian Caton, who's seen working at the Erinsborough Hospital as part of Hendrix Greyson's huge new storyline.

Upcoming scenes see Hendrix head to the hospital to get himself checked out after some worrying coughing fits.

Hendrix sees this as a precaution as he believes he's merely suffering from a cold, but Dr Caton breaks the news that he has a life-threatening lung condition.

Dr Caton tells Hendrix that his only option is to undergo a lung transplant.

Esther is best known to soap fans for playing Charlie Buckton on Home and Away from 2008 to 2012, when her character was killed off. She also made a guest appearance on the show in 2013, when Charlie appeared to her former partner Brax in a vision

When Esther announced her Neighbours filming last month, she thanked the cast and crew for making her feel welcome on set.

Writing on Instagram, she said: "Thanks for the warm welcome @neighbours.

"Happy I get to play a little part in this iconic show!! #ramsaystreet #celebratingneighbours."

Esther has since announced the happy news that she's expecting her second child with her husband Howard Moggs.

Neighbours airs these scenes on Thursday, May 5 at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Monday, June 6 at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
