Home and Away: Death hits Summer Bay
Xander's shift at work takes a sinister turn....

Saving lives is the most rewarding part of being a paramedic. But this week, Xander's job puts his own life on the line.

In Home and Away, Xander (Luke Van Os) and his colleague Jamie (Hugo Liu) are called out to an accident in remote bushland.

There's seemingly no-one around and the home appears abandoned.

However, the young paramedics are soon greeted by a man who claims to have phoned for help? then things take an ominous turn when three men approach them from behind.

''Xander asks the man to lead them to the patient, but is ambushed by three men wielding bats,'' Luke tells TV WEEK.

    ''They don't stand a chance.''

The men then raid the ambulance for drugs before taking off.

Severely beaten and injured, Xander calls his sister Rose (Kirsty Marillier) for help.

At the hospital, Xander writhes in pain as Dr Bree Cameron (Juliet Godwin) assesses his injuries.

When Xander asks about Jamie, her face falls.

Rose then delivers the news that his partner died at the scene. Xander is gutted.

'''It hurts deeply as Xander asks himself why he survived and not Jamie?'' Luke says.

''This eats away at Xander as he struggles with survivor guilt.''

Rose promises to seek justice for his death ? she'll do whatever it takes to put the men behind bars.

But Xander isn't listening as he wallows in grief. It's been a tough few months for him as he's struggled to handle the stress of the job.

''Xander loves helping people and, as a paramedic, you get to be everyone's hero, but that obviously comes with its pitfalls,'' Luke says.

''He definitely loves what he does, but it's growing more challenging for him.''

Will this news put him over the edge?

Home And Away Xander's injury is worse than we expected, will he be saved in time?
    He is becoming too ''reckless.''

The road to recovery has been tough for paramedic Xander in Home And Away.

Since being bashed by drug dealers raiding his ambulance for its supply of drugs, he's been struggling not only with his injuries, but the thought that he let down his work partner Jamie, who was killed in the ambush.

Xander (Luke Van Os) is now out of hospital, but the memory of his lost mate Jamie (Hugo Liu) has made him push himself harder than he should to get back out into the world.

And when that means heading back to the beach for a surf before he's ready, it could prove fatal.

"Xander feels the loss of Jamie deeply, as well as the pain for Jamie's family," Luke, 25, tells TV WEEK. "He wants to do everything possible to help them grieve? but he's also becomes a bit reckless."

His half-sister Rose (Kirsty Marillier) has seen him spiral into self-destructive behaviour before and is concerned he's repeating his old patterns again.

"Rose is worried about Xander and his reckless attitude, especially while he needs to heal," Luke says. "She's worried about him, which causes a few arguments between them."

Ignoring his sibling's advice, Xander sets out to hit the waves ? only to collapse on the sand when his injuries prove too painful.

Only his friend Mali (Kyle Shilling) knows where Xander was headed and, when he doesn't return, his concern mounts.

But will he realise just how much physical trouble his mate is in and get to Xander in time?

Home and Away's Xander Delaney faces fury over Mackenzie Booth's health
    A blame game begins.

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/hom...ckenzie-booth/

Home and Away spoilers follow from Australian-pace episodes, which some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Home and Away's season finale week kicked off with high drama on Monday (November 27) as Xander Delaney faced the wrath of Summer Bay's new doctor Levi Fowler.

Xander found himself in the firing line as Mackenzie Booth's health became a major cause for concern again.

Monday's (27 November) episode on Channel 7 in Australia saw Mac rushed back to hospital after a scary incident that took place while she was recovering at home.

A few weeks ago, Mac was left fighting for her life after a sudden health scare while she was working at Salt.

She was subsequently diagnosed with a heart attack caused by a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection ? a condition that involves a tear forming in the wall of a coronary artery, which supplies blood to the heart.

More recently, Mac experienced further symptoms and headed back to the hospital, but left again when it was decided that she'd probably suffered a panic attack.

In Monday's episode, Mackenzie's housemate Mali Hudson was horrified to find her unresponsive in bed. He called an ambulance to get her the emergency help she needed.

At the hospital, Dr Levi ? who's the estranged brother of established character Eden Fowler ? determined that Mackenzie had a blood clot forming.

He was quick to blame Xander for this, pointing out that the former paramedic had supported Mac's decision to discharge herself from hospital rather than staying in for observation.

Levi ranted: "If she is [going to be okay], it'll be no thanks to you. This is why we don't encourage people to leave hospital before they're ready.

"You enabled her ? you put her in a car and you took her home. Clots could be forming in her arteries as we speak, putting her at risk of another heart attack.

"If she had have been here, she would have been closely monitored and it never would have got to this stage. Do you understand that?"

Although Xander protested that Mac had made her own decision, he later confided in Mali, Tane Parata and Alf Stewart about how he felt responsible for his friend's condition.

With the season finale looming, will Mac pull through?

Home and Away fans in the UK will see these scenes on Channel 5 early next year. The show is currently on its Christmas break in the UK, making way for the channel's afternoon Christmas movies.

Home and Away returns to Channel 5 in January. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7plus.
