Holby City fans have been without new episodes for nearly three months now, and it's safe to assume that they're desperate for fresh content. Fortunately, they don't have to wait too much longer for some, now that the medical series has confirmed when it'll be back on air.

While revealing its broadcasting schedule for the next few weeks, the BBC confirmed that the show will return on Tuesday, November 10 at 8pm.

The eagerly anticipated instalment will see Ric (Hugh Quarshie) wake after brain surgery, only to discover that the world around him is vastly different to how it was when he went under. With the rest of the hospital stretched thin during the coronavirus pandemic, will Ric manage to pull through?

Elsewhere, Cameron (Nic Jackman) struggles to step up to the plate when tasked with helping a critical patient and several of the staff start to express concern over Sacha's (Bob Barrett) behaviour following partner Essie's (Kaye Wragg) death.

Back in early August, Holby City was forced to undergo a second extended break, having resumed filming in July, due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Consequently, the soap actually ran out of new episodes to broadcast ? despite some of its cast returning to production towards the end of the month ? and has been off air as a result since Tuesday, August 11.

Holby City airs on BBC One.

Holby City is back on our screens next week, with an absolute cracker of an episode you won't be forgetting in a hurry.

Stretching over a number of weeks, the scenes will see Max attempt to navigate the hospital through the pandemic, while Sacha's behaviour sparks concern and cowardly Cameron crumbles.

Here's a full collection of the nine biggest moments coming up:

    1. Max struggles to keep control

    BBC
As we all know, Holby will be kicking off 'season two' with a groundbreaking coronavirus special, which sees the pandemic explored through the eyes of CEO Max McGerry and her team.

The much-anticipated episode touches on a whole range of real-life NHS challenges ? from bed shortages, PPE problems, staffing problems, and a heavily pregnant patient infected with the virus. But when the task at hand proves to be bigger than anyone could have imagined, it begins to take its toll on Max and her Holby City staff.

This is a poignant, powerful, non-sensational watch that pays a fitting tribute to the NHS, while simultaneously kick-starting some high-octane stories that will be playing out throughout the autumn and winter.

    2. Ric wakes up from his coma

Ric is still in a coma when we catch up with the Holby team next week, oblivious to the rapidly changing world around him.

When Ric does eventually wake up following his brain surgery (no thanks to Guy Self!), he is faced with a different life and a very different future.

After learning that Holby is being gripped by a coronavirus pandemic, Ric isn't backwards about coming forwards regarding Max's ability to handle an ordeal of this magnitude.

Determined not to hide away, Ric then puts his own fragile health to one side to help a heavily pregnant patient and her baby, but what are Ric's chances of survival?

    3. Sacha's behaviour sparks concern

As we've already revealed, fans will be greeted by a very different Sacha when the show returns next month.

Grief-stricken Sacha has buried Essie and handed back her baby Isla, and sadly, but not wholly surprisingly, isn't coping.

With Sacha refusing to lean on his friends, or accept any help, it's not long before his nonchalant behaviour becomes a cause for concern. Enter Jodie ? and things are about to get a whole lot worse...

    4. Jodie has a big impact on Sacha

After rejecting help from his nearest and dearest, Sacha will seek comfort in Jodie ? a patient who has come into the hospital with some vague and nondescript symptoms.

When Jodie, who is played by former Emmerdale star Sian Reese-Williams, finds herself single, homeless and equally in need of some company, Sacha takes pity on her and invites her to stay with him.

Back at Sacha's, it's not long before things are progressing, but how will his friends react to his new relationship, merely weeks after Essie's death? Clue: not very well.

    5. Cameron is determined to be the hero

    BBC
As Cameron struggles with the intensity and uncertainty of the pandemic, he is determined not to let this diminish his chances to climb the hospital ladder.

Despite falling apart while treating a dying Covid patient, Cameron manages to come away smelling of roses when he ends up being in the right place at the right time. And something tells us his devious antics won't be ending there, either...

    6. Ric's exit

Say it ain't so! Next week's episode marks the end of the road for show stalwart Ric Griffin, with Hugh Quarshie bowing out of his role as Ric after 19 years. Details about the exact nature of Ric's exit story are being kept under wraps for now, but trust us, you'll be needing the tissues.

Speaking about his exit, Hugh said: "I came very close to quitting acting entirely before being invited to join Holby City. I had felt unfulfilled and that I never quite fitted in. Holby City changed all that.

"The work became absorbing, colleagues became friends. I wouldn't have stayed so long if it hadn't been a great place to work, and leaving will be like leaving home ? a place where there is warmth and a welcome, a place to which you can always return?"

    7. Ange is left devastated

If it seemed like there was some simmering tension between Ange and Fletch in the show's last episode back in August, this was intentional.

Next week's episode will pick up on that meaningfully as it becomes increasingly clear that Fletch is plagued with doubts about what he wants his future to look like ? Ange included.

Hurt by Fletch's dismissive behaviour, Ange eventually confronts him and demands to know when he stopped loving her. Is this the end of the road for the couple?

    8. Three new arrivals

While Holby fans will be saying a sad farewell to Ric next week, there will be some fresh faces in the department.

Josh Hudson (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge), Jeong Soo-Han (Chan Woo Lim) and Skylar Bryce (Phoebe Pryce) will all be making their debut next week, as the newest wave of F1 doctors.

As you can imagine, it's a baptism of fire for the trio when they are forced to hit the ground running in the pandemic, but can they rise to the challenge or will they crumble under pressure?

    9. Donna meets a face from the past

Donna will get a blast from the past next week, when Zav's brother turns up at the hospital.

As the show delves back into Zav's untimely death earlier in the year, Donna is surprised to come face to face with Alex, who has joined as a health care assistant.

Alex is profusely apologetic over the deplorable treatment Donna received from his family after Zav's passing, but could this new friendship help her move forward?

Holby City airs these scenes on Tuesday, November 10 at 8.15pm on BBC One.
