The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved for use in the UK, with the first doses due to be given on Monday amid rising coronavirus cases, especially in my home county of Essex where a state of emergency has been declared at the rising number of cases.

The plan is to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible by only giving one dose initially, with the follow-up jab some 12 weeks later. This will give more coverage quicker. Test have shown that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is 70% effective even after just one dose, though it is thought that for longer term effect, two doses will still be needed.

Right, I'm off to queue up outside my GP surgery!

I wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year .. doubt 1st of January will be any different but hopefully in the course of this year things will turn out for the better.. I hope everyone here will be healthy and safe next NYE and still contributing here .. xxx
