Bethany is concerned when Alya tells her that Ray has booked her a posh suite at a hotel in town to meet an interior designer. Bethany warns her that he's probably trying to get her into bed. When Alya suggests to Ray that she can't go as she has tickets for a gig in town, he is less than happy.

Hearing from Ryan that Alya has dropped him for a uni reunion, Bethany realises she has decided to meet Ray and decides to take matters into her own hands. Bethany enlists Daniel's help to try and get information from Ray's solicitors office.

Meanwhile, an exhausted David arrives back from visiting Shona in Leeds. David piles the kids into the car and they set off for the school play. Barely able to keep his eyes open, David crashes the car into a skip.

Elsewhere, Eileen calls in the factory hoping to apply for the Customer Services job. To Nick's annoyance, Sarah invites her back later for an interview. Eileen arrives at the factory for her interview, but her face falls when she realises Alina is after the same job.

Also, Sean is taken aback to discover Mary has introduced her own set of rules at Number 11. He realises Eileen needs him as an ally as much as a friend.

Finally, Nina helps out in the cafe and assures Roy it's the least she can do to repay his hospitality, while Fiz and Tyrone study a copy of the agreement allowing Jade access visits with Hope and realise she has got them over a barrel.

Having managed to download Ray's legal files, Bethany and Daniel are pleased to find a list of names including Michelle's with an asterisk next to them.

Bethany decides to try and get in touch with some of the women. Will she find anything out?

Meanwhile, David, Max and Lily extract themselves from the wreckage of the car, shaken but not hurt. When Kevin confirms that the car is a write-off, David worries how he'll get to Leeds.

Elsewhere, Eileen and Alina are both interviewed for the Underworld job. In The Rovers, Seb is surprised to see Alina and introduces her to his girlfriend, Emma.

Also, Nina persuades Roy to adopt a more environmentally friendly cleaning fluid in the cafe and offers to make it for him. Roy reluctantly agrees.

Finally, Fiz and Tyrone break the news to Hope that they've decided she can see Jade again. Hope is thrilled, while Fiz and Tyrone wonder if they've done the right thing.

Ray tries to convince Alya that he did not have designs on her and simply wanted her to meet Cassie, the interior designer. But when Cassie comes to meet Alya, it soon becomes clear that she had no idea about the meeting at the hotel.

Alya confronts Ray over the fictitious meeting and reckons he was hoping to lure her into bed. How will he react?

At the same time, Ray is still charming Abi.

Meanwhile, David takes the train to Leeds to visit Shona. However, he's devastated when the doctor breaks the news that Shona has made it clear she doesn't want to see him.

Elsewhere, Maria tells Gary that she's going to distribute leaflets on the MMR jab as it's important to spread the word and save lives. Gary's pleased to see her so positive. Ali advises Maria that although it's great that she's raising measles awareness, she should allow herself to grieve properly for the baby she lost.

Also, when Fiz tells Hope that Tyrone will be picking her up from school to take her to the cinema with Jade, Hope's over the moon and Fiz does her best to remain positive.

Finally, when Alina reveals that she's looking for somewhere to live, Seb suggests to Emma that she could move in with them.

Abi is shocked to hear the allegations about Ray. However, it soon becomes clear that the Gazette do not feel there is enough evidence to run the story, forcing Bethany and Daniel to post her expose online.

As Bethany makes to leave, Daniel kisses her tenderly but their mood is broken by a furious Beth who through tears of grief, accuses Daniel of showing no respect for Sinead.

Meanwhile, Maria finds David clearly upset on the bench in Victoria Garden. David explains how after an arduous journey to Leeds by train, Shona refused to see him. Maria hands David her car keys, telling him she'd like him to have her car.

Elsewhere, Ryan hands Gary an envelope full of cash and confirms it's the last of his debt collections. Maria suggests to Gary that they should give David their car as he's having a terrible time and it's the least they can do. Gary reluctantly agrees. Gary bungs Ryan some cash and asks him to pick up an engagement ring from the jewellers.

Also, Emma and Seb offer Alina the box room in the salon flat. Alina's grateful.

Finally, Evelyn plays 'shops' with Ruby. However, when Hope returns home and asserts that their ‘shop' is boring and she had much more fun with Jade, Fiz and Tyrone despair.

Planning his surprise proposal, Gary tells Maria he has booked her in for a manicure. But as the day goes on, her suspicions about Gary grow as first Ryan is shifty about a parcel he has for Gary – the engagement ring – and then she spots Gary having a heated exchange with Ike, which results in Gary handing over money.

Ali finds an upset Maria in the barbers and she voices her suspicions about Gary. Ali admits he never stopped loving her and they kiss passionately.

Meanwhile, Tim, Sally and Abi discuss the online article exposing Ray as a sex pest. In the Kabin, Abi has a dig at Ray about the online allegations. Ray plays it down and hopes that Abi is still going to attend the charity ball with him later.

Elsewhere, as Ed sets about measuring up the bistro for a refurb, he's thrilled to discover his old mate Danny is working there as temporary manager. Danny reveals to Ed that since they last met, he has come out. Ed is taken aback. James calls in the Bistro and Ed introduces him to Danny. The lads share an awkward hand shake.

Also, Beth tears a strip off Daniel and Bethany for jumping into bed when Sinead has only been dead for less than four months. Daniel is ashamed and to Bethany's disappointment, suggests they should cool things for a while. Daniel admits to Adam that he slept with Bethany and he really likes her.

A guilty Maria returns to the flat and confronts Gary about his shady dealings. But when both Ike and Ryan back him up and explain that his money to Ike was a gift and the parcel Ryan had was an engagement ring, she starts to realise she has made a huge mistake.

At the same time, Ali is convinced he and Maria are an item once more.

Meanwhile, Abi turns up at the charity gala with a plan.

Elsewhere, Danny urges James to pluck up the courage and tell Ed that he's gay, convinced that he's more open minded than James might think. Will he pluck up the courage? Ed tells Aggie how his old mate Danny has declared himself gay.

Also, Daniel finds Bethany in The Rovers and in front of a packed pub, announces that they're now an item and everyone better get used to it.

Finally, Sarah and Adam tentatively broach the subject of their wedding with David. David assures them they mustn't put their lives on hold for Shona and should go ahead with their plans.

Coronation Street has confirmed that original character Ken Barlow will leave the cobbles – but not the show.

The ITV soap aired a huge surprise in its milestone 10,000th episode on Friday evening (February 7), as Ken made the big decision to move into a retirement complex with his girlfriend Claudia Colby.

Corrie bosses have now explained what this means for Ken, assuring fans that Bill Roache – who plays him – is not leaving the show.

A future storyline will see Ken go ahead with his plans to move out of Number 1. Viewers will then see Ken and Claudia start a new life at the Still Waters luxury retirement complex, where new on-screen adventures follow.

The first big surprise comes when Ken discovers that his old friends Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) and Freda Burgess (Ali Briggs) are already settled into life at Still Waters, so there will be some familiar faces to catch up with.

Later, when Ken crosses swords with fellow resident Charles – played by Robin Hood actor Michael Elwyn – it looks as though he'll be facing just as much drama at Still Waters as he did on the cobbles.

Speaking about the new storyline, Bill explained: "This is a big decision for Ken, but in some ways he thinks it is now or never. He has lived on the same street his whole life and in the same house for most of it.

"He feels that he had a chance to move away with Martha on the barge but he let her go. Part of him regretted that.

"He doesn't want to make the same mistake again and Claudia is very persuasive. Filming that final scene of the episode was very poignant, just Ken and Eccles and the cobbles.

"He breaks the news to the family next week and they are surprised, but very soon Peter and Tracy start squabbling over who will be given first refusal on the house.

"We have already started filming at the retirement complex and I am really enjoying it. It always feels different when we film away from the street.

"It seems fitting that Ken makes this decision in the 10,000th episode, but it will be strange not filming in Number 1 after all this time."

Coronation Street fans will see Ken and Claudia break their big news to the Barlows in Monday night's episodes (February 10).

Tracy looks forward to claiming Number 1 as her own, but Peter decides to fight her for the house – even though his partner Carla Connor is far from enthusiastic.

The latest family feud confirms to Ken that he's right to leave, so next month he settles into Still Waters with Claudia. The couple start to enjoy the luxury development's many facilities, including a cocktail bar, book club and fencing lessons.

Will the move pay off for Ken and Claudia, or are they making a mistake? Plus, who will be the new owners of Number 1?
