Next week on Casualty, Marty is left heartbroken when he makes a shocking discovery about his new boyfriend, while Charlie battles with his guilt over Duffy's care.

Here is a round-up of the biggest stories you can look forward to.

1. Marty is smitten

Fans will see a new side to Marty next week, with the nurse on cloud nine after falling for Jack, an older man with a chequered past.

As Marty opens up to his new boyfriend about his struggles finding love as an Iranian-British gay man, Jack tells Marty that he thinks he's in love with him.

Wanting to fully commit to Jack, Marty excitedly deletes his dating apps, but his good mood is interrupted by a message from Marty's father – a brutal reminder that not everyone will be happy for him.

2. Marty makes a shock discovery

When Jack later turns up at the ED, Marty's happy bubble bursts as it becomes clear that he doesn't know as much about his new boyfriend as he thought.

As he helps treat a pilot called Liam, who has been injured while trying to hijack a plane, Marty's world crumbles around him when he contacts his husband, only to discover that it's none other than Jack.

3. Charlie struggles with his decision over Duffy

Having decided to put Duffy in a care home, Charlie is overwhelmed with guilt when she fails to settle there.

When conversation between them is stunted and sad over lunch, Charlie starts to question his decision to put his wife there in the first place. Later, when Duffy can't remember hurting herself, Charlie grows worried about her safety as well.

4. Robyn supports Charlie

As Charlie starts to wonder whether a care home is really the best place for Duffy, he seeks Robyn's reassurance that he is doing the right thing.

Supportive as ever, Robyn reminds him that Duffy needs him as a husband, not as a carer, and is fully backing Charlie's decision. Will that be enough to quash Charlie's doubts?

5. Charlie gives in to his guilt

Despite his earlier wobbles, Charlie is left reassured when the care home insists that Duffy is doing fine.

However, when he later finds a confused Duffy with her suitcase packed, ready to leave, the guilt overwhelms him and he ultimately decides to bring her home.

Shocked, Robyn confronts Charlie over his sudden change of heart, but he remains adamant that he promised to look after Duffy and he will – meaning she's home to stay.

6. Marty is left devastated

By the end of a stressful shift, a shocked Marty comes to the devastating realisation that his romance was all a farce.

Although he initially attempts to fight for a future with Jack, Marty is left humiliated when Jack rejects him again – claiming they are from very different 'backgrounds' and it was never going to work.

Angry and heartbroken, Marty storms out the ED, and drowns his sorrows at a nearby bar.

7. Archie and Connie bond

It's the twist you didn't see coming (well, maybe you did) but Archie and Connie are about to become allies.

As Connie continues her mission to win Archie's approval, she intercepts Archie's plan to help with a procedure upstairs, instead insisting that she stay on resus with her.

Despite her initial frustration, Archie begins to see Connie in a new light as when they work together they save Liam's life. Grateful for Connie's support, Archie thanks her afterwards and even awkwardly invites her to the pub for a drink. Has Connie found a much-needed friend?

Casualty airs these scenes on Saturday, January 25 at 9.20pm on BBC One.
