Coronation Street fans will see a familiar face from Waterloo Road and Hollyoaks make a guest appearance next week.

Dean Smith has been cast in the role of Andy, a counsellor who supports Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) as he seeks support over his traumatic past.

Upcoming episodes see Paul break his silence by telling his family that evil Kel Hinchley sexually abused him when he was a child.

Paul initially refuses to report Kel to the police, not wanting to face questioning over his ordeal. However, next week's episodes see him change his mind, telling his loved ones that he's ready to make a statement as he wants to see Kel put behind bars.

Paul's boyfriend Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) makes an appointment for him to speak with a counsellor at a sexual abuse charity.

Although Paul is nervous, he manages to confide in the counsellor, Andy, about the abuse he suffered when he was younger.

Afterwards, Andy assures Paul that the hardest part is over and his next step would be to make a statement to the police about Kel.

Pleased that he went for the appointment, Paul feels that a weight has been lifted off his shoulders thanks to his discussion with Andy.

Guest star Dean Smith played the role of Philip Ryan on Waterloo Road in 2009 and 2010. He has also featured as a recurring cast member in Hollyoaks since 2018, playing corrupt copper DS Yates.

Dean's other TV roles include parts in Last Tango In Halifax, Still Open All Hours and Being Victor.

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, November 27 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
