Ryan becomes suspicious as he finds Ali asleep at a table in the cafe. When Liam complains of a sore tummy, Maria is delighted when Ali offers to babysit and she heads off to work on cloud nine when he says that he has fallen in love with her.

When Claudia and Emma hear the smoke alarm going off, Gary, Emma, Maria and Ryan burst into Maria's flat to find Ali asleep on sofa and a charred pizza in the oven.

Maria grabs Liam and orders Ali to leave. Ryan discovers some pills in Ali's coat pocket and orders him to sort his life out.

Meanwhile, Robert lies to Michelle, saying he's spending the morning doing the accounts. Having found out from Liz that she had Robert in her cab earlier, Michelle heads off in hot pursuit to the Chariot Hotel bar, where admits that he intended to teach Ray a lesson.

Michelle talks him out of it and persuades him to come home for a last minute holiday to Mallorca. Robert wonders how he's going to break the news to Vicky.

Elsewhere, Dev takes Asha to see Dr Gaddas, who assesses her sore arms and suggests counselling is the way forward.

Also, Ken tells Daniel and Sinead that he has changed his mind and won't be going to Italy after all, as he can't leave them at such a difficult time.

Finally, before Aunty Vi's funeral, Debbie hands out cheques to Kevin and Sophie.

Maria apologises to Ali for flying off the handle, explaining that she was simply worried about Liam, but she is shocked when he tells her that it isn't working. A distraught Maria calls by Ali's to find him spaced out. She assumes he has been drinking and unsuccessfully begs for another chance, which abruptly ends with Ali telling her that he doesn't love her.

Gary calms down a tipsy Maria as she rows with Michelle over her parenting skills, suggesting both her sons are a disaster. Ryan insists Ali should seek professional help for his addiction.

Meanwhile, Claudia is understanding as to why Ken can't come away, so Audrey suggests celebrating Ken's birthday here rather than Italy. When Claudia mentions her plans for a party, Ken feels this may be inappropriate given Sinead's situation but Daniel disagrees. Daniel and Sinead promise they'll savour every day.

Elsewhere, Dev tells Asha how much he loves her and only wants the best for her.

Also, Vicky reluctantly gives Robert her blessing to attend a cookery course in Mallorca as he won't be able to get a refund.

Finally, Kevin, Sophie, Paula and Jack bid a fond farewell to Debbie.

Daniel and Sinead meet with the oncologist, who says her cancer isn't responding to treatment and she only has a few weeks to live. In a state of shock, Sinead is insistent they must attend Ken's 80th birthday party. When Daniel reveals that he and Beth have arranged a surprise first birthday party for Bertie too, Sinead is touched.

At the party, Ken is thrilled to see Norris there and is touched when Emily skypes him from Edinburgh. At Bertie's party in The Rovers back yard, Sinead fights back tears as she breaks the news to family and friends that she only has weeks to live.

Meanwhile, Abi finds out about Kevin's £50,000 windfall and plans to meet him for lunch. As Kevin waits in the Bistro for Abi, a sassy woman in her forties approaches and reveals that she's Martine. She apologises for standing him up and explains that Abi tracked her down, but is Kevin interested in Martine?

When Paula suggests Sophie should jack in her college course and they should go travelling in Cambodia instead, Sophie is taken aback.

Elsewhere, Sarah visits David in prison and discovers she has missed Shona's birthday. As a fellow inmate slips a mobile phone inside his sock, he's furious to clock David watching him. He is almost caught with the mobile phone, however he's impressed when David causes a distraction so he can get rid of the phone.

Also, Maria, Gary, Faye and Jake set about some digging in Victoria Garden. Ali watches jealously as Gary flirts with Maria.

Sinead feels she has ruined Ken's party, but he assures that his only concern is for her and Daniel. Daniel and Sinead leave their nearest and dearest to process the news.

Ken shares his terrible news about Sinead to those in The Rovers. Ken is clearly struggling to keep his emotions bottled. Liz, Sean and Eileen agree to bury the hatchet, realising time is precious.

Back at the flat, Sinead tells Daniel how sorry she is that she has to leave him, but she knows Bertie will be in safe hands. Daniel finally surrenders to the tears.

Meanwhile, Kevin mentions his recent windfall to Martine and realises she's only after his cash. Paula persuades Sophie to leave for Cambodia tonight, but it transpires that Paula never planned to go with her – she just used it as a way to encourage the move. Kevin, Sally, Tim and Paula bid an emotional farewell to Sophie as she leaves for Cambodia.

Elsewhere, making out he has been at his friend Carl's house, Max returns home. He smiles when he receives a text from someone called 'M'.

Also, David bonds with his fellow inmate over distracting the prison officer for his benefit.

Coronation Street doesn't air on Friday this week.

Coronation Street fans to face one-week gap between episodes this month

We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but Coronation Street fans are going to have to wait an entire week between episodes this month. Sorry.

We've already reported that on Friday, October 11 there will be no episodes of Corrie or Emmerdale because England are playing the Czech Republic, but because England are playing Bulgaria on Monday, October 14 that means that both soaps are off the air on that day too.

So that means between Wednesday, October 9 and Wednesday, October 16, we've got no Corrie at all.

Emmerdale fans get things a bit better, as the typical hour-long Thursday episode is still happening on October 10. Also, the Tuesday episodes (October 8 and October 15) will be extended to an hour to make up for the football.

Unfortunately, we don't know at the time of writing exactly when Corrie will make up for the missed episodes, but we're sure they will at some point.

Shouldn't be too difficult ,edit out all the crap, (particularly the rubbish with Michelle and Robert ) , the remainder making up a couple of decent episodes.
