Coronation Street's David Platt officially loses out on his chance to buy back Number 8 next week.

David (Jack P Shepherd) is desperate to regain his former home, but is facing tough competition as Tracy McDonald also has her eye on the property.

Next week, David braces himself for a major disappointment as Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) puts the empty house up for auction.

David and his wife Shona (Julia Goulding) are unhappy as they still haven't come up with the cash they need.

However, when Tracy's (Kate Ford) husband Steve (Simon Gregson) returns from his trip to the Peak District, he's shocked to hear that she intends to buy the house.

Shona refuses to give up without a fight, so she approaches David's gran Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) to ask for a loan.

Audrey is not impressed by the request and reminds Shona that David stole from her.

Needing a different approach, Shona is delighted when she spots a telecommunications engineer crouching in front of an open cabinet with all of the wires hanging out.

Shona ruthlessly disconnects all of the Wi-Fi, hoping that it'll stop Tracy from being able to take part in the online auction.

Despite Shona's best efforts, a frenzied bidding war soon plays out between Tracy and David, who now has some money behind him at the eleventh hour.

The bidding reaches ?138,000, at which point Steve urges Tracy not to go any further. Admitting defeat, Tracy slams her laptop closed.

Soon afterwards, Tracy learns that the ?138,000 bid wasn't placed by David either.

Confused over the mystery buyer, David and Shona are intrigued to spot a light on at Number 8. They knock on the door to find out who the house's new owner is?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, February 8 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

When Nick suggests lunch in the Bistro, Leanne agrees as she's determined to make more of an effort for Simon's sake. Over lunch in the Bistro, Leanne lies to Nick, making out that Imran is keeping her job open for her and they're fine for money. Simon keeps his counsel.

Later, Leanne heads to Victoria Garden and gazes at Oliver's apple tree, lost in misery.

Meanwhile, having failed to secure a mortgage, David and Shona are at their wits' end. Steve returns from the Peak District and is shocked to find out that Tracy intends to buy Number 8. Shona approaches Audrey and asks her if she can lend them the money to buy Number 8, but Audrey reminds her that David stole from her.

Spotting a telecommunications engineer crouching in front of an open cabinet with all the wires hanging out, Shona has an idea and disconnects all the wifi. Will her plan work?

Tracy and David head out onto the street, both furious that the wifi is down, Shona announces that it's her doing as she wanted to stop Tracy from buying their house.

Elsewhere, when fellow prisoner Joe asks him for a game of pool, Johnny declines, too wrapped up in his own problems. Joe is disappointed. When Johnny finds out from Gary that Joe took an overdose in his cell he's horrified, realising that Joe's request for a game of pool was actually a cry for help.

As a guilty Shona tries to explain her actions, David and Tracy start a frenzied bidding war. When the bidding reaches ?138,000, Steve forbids Tracy from going any further. Tracy angrily slams the lid closed on her laptop.

Tracy and David are equally shocked to discover that the final bid of ?138,000 was placed by an unknown party. Spotting a light on in Number 8, David and Shona knock on the door, desperate to find out who the mystery bidder was.

Meanwhile, Jenny is worried sick, aware that Joe's overdose will bring back dark thoughts of Aidan. In the prison, troubled Johnny imagines he can see a bloke in a suit. Jenny is upset to overhear Daisy slagging off Johnny. But when Daisy apologises, Jenny is forgiving and assures her she likes having her to stay. Daisy is relieved to have won her round.

Elsewhere, Leanne admits how much she's struggling and thanks Simon for his amazing support. Masking his own anxiety, Simon assures her they'll be fine.

Also, in the Bistro, Debbie reminds Abi that she saved her life and did what she had to do to protect herself. Abi is chastened. Debbie reveals to Ray's accountant, Miles, how she has no intention of allowing Ray a new life in Turkey and instead, he's going to prison.

Knowing that Carla is visiting Johnny later, Jenny implores her to find out how he really is and not to let him fob her off as she's genuinely worried about him. In the prison, Johnny is seeing mice and cockroaches, but he is confused and as he glances up, he thinks he sees Aidan.

Carla visits Johnny and quizzes him about his health. Johnny reluctantly admits that his eyesight has deteriorated to the point where he's hallucinating, he thought he saw Aidan and wonders if he's losing his mind. Carla is deeply concerned.

Meanwhile, Abi calls in the Bistro and suggests they should tell Kevin the truth about Ray as he's clearly suspicious, but Debbie won't hear of it. When Kevin and Abi spot Mick the thug lurking outside the Bistro looking for Ray, Kevin tells him to speak to Debbie.

Worried for Debbie's safety at the hands of Mick, Abi tells Kevin how it was Debbie who called an ambulance and saved her life, but in self defence ended up killing Ray and disposed of his body in the river. How will Kevin react?

Elsewhere, Gail discusses Ted's funeral arrangements with George.

Also, Fiz admonishes Tyrone for throwing Alina out at such short notice. Tyrone squirms. A downbeat Alina calls at the garage and returns her key to Tyrone. When she explains how she was turned down for a job this morning, Tyrone suggests she should take up beauty therapy again. Alina's not keen and Tyrone wonders if he has said the wrong thing.

Kevin confides in Abi that he doesn't trust Debbie one bit and suspects that she's lying and Ray is still alive.

Abi thinks he's being ridiculous and stops him from following her.

Meanwhile, Johnny promises Carla he'll talk to the prison doctor about his hallucinations on condition she doesn't say a word to Jenny. Johnny heads back to his cell, with no intention of speaking to the prison doctor. Carla returns home and assures Jenny that Johnny is fine.

Johnny is thrown when he's summoned by the prison doctor. Carla confesses to Roy that she has broken her promise to Johnny and phoned the prison to voice her concerns about his health. Roy assures her that she has done the right thing.

Elsewhere, when Fiz reminds him how Alina found herself at the mercy of people traffickers the last time she worked in a beauty parlour, Tyrone is mortified. Tyrone apologises to Alina for being insensitive and suggests she could run her own business. He offers to help her look for a suitable college course and Alina is touched.

    Hour-long episode

Gary and Faye appear in court. Debbie tells Sally that she'd like to hire the best lawyer for Faye and use Ray's money to fund it. Kevin is sceptical and says he has had enough. Chucking down his tools, he says he's going to join Jack on his school camping trip.

In the Bistro, Ray has disguised himself as a workman and overheard Debbie discussing her plans with Miles. Furious, he tells her that he knows her game and forces her into the walk-in fridge and goes to lock her in.

Kevin manages to hit Ray over the head with a frying pan and tries to rescue Debbie, only to hear the door slam shut and realise they are both locked in the fridge. A deeply worried Kevin and Debbie prepare for a long night in the fridge.

Meanwhile, convinced he can see a ginger cat, Johnny confides in Gary that he's really struggling with his eyesight and feels like he's cracking up. Gary urges him to get some help. Johnny calls Carla from prison and tells her that thanks to her and her big gob, the doctor is referring him to a psychiatrist. Carla urges him to tell Jenny what's going on.

Johnny calls Jenny and finally opens up to her about his hallucinations and the fact he thinks he can see Aidan. Jenny's heart goes out to him, but she is angry that Carla kept it from her.

Elsewhere, Fiz asks Tyrone to look after the furniture shop while she goes to Hope's school assessment. But when Alina invites him for a coffee to discuss the business course she has enrolled on, he leaves the shop unattended.

Tyrone returns and finds a guy called Leon helping himself to furniture, but Lean assures him it was arranged with Fiz. Fiz returns from Hope's assessment and is shocked to find the shop half empty. Tyrone is horrified to realise he has been duped, while Fiz dreads how Gary's going to take the news.

Also today, when Billy receives a Valentine's Day present from Paul, he can't help but feel saddened.

Finally, an upbeat Leanne shows Simon a feather she found, convinced that it's from Oliver and a sign that he's at peace. Having tapped in her card details, Leanne books a consultation with Crystal Moon, a TV psychic who assures her that the feather was a symbol of Oliver's love for her.

I wonder if soapland advances its usual fast forward to have given Gail her inheritance from Ted and she bought the house?
