Home and Away's Mackenzie Booth returned to screens in Australia on Wednesday after a three-week break.

Mackenzie headed back home to the Astoni farmhouse after taking time out following the shock departure of her boyfriend Gabe Miller.

Last month, Gabe saw how much Mackenzie was struggling with the news that his cancer had returned.

Fearing that he would soon become a burden, Gabe sent Mac away on a brief errand and packed his bags while she was gone. When Mac arrived back later, she was horrified to discover that Gabe had walked out on her, leaving a goodbye note behind.

Mac then confided in her new friend Mali Hudson about how she needed her own break from the Bay, so she also packed a bag to leave.

In Wednesday's triple bill of episodes in Australia, Mac struggled to return to normality after coming back home for the first time in weeks.

Aside from Mali, most of Mac's friends in the Bay were unaware that her relationship with Gabe had ended again.

However, when everyone started to notice Mac behaving strangely, she reluctantly shared the news with Tane Parata and he spread the word.

Mac continued to bombard Gabe with phone calls, leaving him several voicemail messages that went unanswered.

After a heart-to-heart with unlikely friend John Palmer, an emotional Mac eventually realised that she had no choice but to let Gabe go.

In a seemingly final voicemail, Mac told him: "Gabe, it's me. You win. I will move on with my life the way that you want.

"It still hurts. I still wish that things were different. But I will not call you again. I love you."

Is this really the last time that Mac will get a chance to speak to Gabe?

Home and Away's Mackenzie Booth faced unwelcome interference over her personal life in Wednesday's Australian episode (May 3) after seeking an escape from her grief.

Mac has developed a connection with Summer Bay newcomer Kahu Parata, who's the troublesome cousin of Tane.

The show's latest episode on Australia's Channel 7 saw Mac invite Kahu back to her place in the middle of the day.

With the chemistry between them heating up, Mac and Kahu rushed off to the bedroom together. Both agreed that, while they were having fun, it didn't mean anything.

Later, Tane, Felicity Newman and Mali Hudson all put two and two together after Mac and Kahu had both mysteriously disappeared at the same time.

Realising that Mac had slept with Kahu, the trio worried that it was too soon after the tragic loss of Gabe Miller.

Last week, Mac received a phone call informing her that Gabe had passed away. Mac felt conflicting emotions as Gabe had walked out on her in the middle of his cancer treatment.

Sensing that Mac was vulnerable, Tane warned Kahu not to mess her around at such a difficult time.

Meanwhile, Mac had tense conversations with both Felicity and Mali when they expressed concern over her casual hook-up. While Felicity and Mali's worries came from a good place, Mac felt they were overstepping the mark by policing her personal life.

The final straw for Mac came when she sought out Kahu to invite him back to her place again and received a well-meaning rejection.

Mac suggested: "Being the boss, I could probably swing the morning off work if you wanted some company."

Kahu said: "Look, yesterday was fun, but I keep being reminded that you're going through a tough time. And you said yourself that it didn't mean anything, so I think we should just be friends."

Will Mac accept Kahu's decision or warn her friends to back off?

Despite suffering a recent heart attack, Mac has refused to slow down. But in the gripping season finale of Home And Away, she may not be so lucky when fate strikes ? twice.

In recent episodes, Mac (Emily Weir) was diagnosed with Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection ? a condition that occurs when a tear forms in the wall of the heart ? after collapsing at the surf club.

Doctor Levi (Tristan Gorey) managed to save her life, but placed her under strict instructions to rest and recover ? something the businesswoman is not used to.

"Mac is grateful for him and his expertise in saving her life," Emily tells TV WEEK of Mac's burgeoning friendship with Levi.

"She respects him for his knowledge and professionalism."

Later, Mac urges paramedic friend Xander (Luke Van Os) to sneak a peek at her chart. His buoyed optimism encourages Mac to discharge herself from hospital, which prompts Levi to rail at Xander for giving her false hope.

SCAD can slow or block blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, heart rhythm problems or sudden death," Emily explains. "It mostly affects women and can occur at any stage of life. The cause of it is still unknown, so it causes Mac a lot of stress."

During the night, paranoia strikes. Mac feels herself spiralling and calls out for Tane (Ethan Browne). He rushes out of his room as Mac clutches at her chest ? it's happening again.

Levi assesses her condition at the hospital, concluding it was a panic attack. But when he advises Mac to stay, she declines and heads home.

The following morning, Levi prepares to end his shift when Mac is rushed in on a gurney with Xander following in hot pursuit ? "We need help!" he cries.

Levi preps Mac for emergency treatment and promises to do all he can as Mac's friends gather at the hospital. But inside, the doctor fears the worst ? Mac survived one heart attack, but can she really survive two?
