CORRIE is getting its first transvestite character - played by Butterflies star Andrew Hall.
Marc - or Marcia in female mode - becomes a love interest for rival hairdressers Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska).
They suspect that Marc is seeing someone else when he stands them up - and the pair spot a mystery woman leaving his house.
They don't twig that "she" is Marc going to Manchester's Gay Village in women's gear.
When they confront him he convinces them it was his sister. But the truth will out eventually.
A source said: "Many men aren't gay but like to wear a frock. Cross-dressing is another taboo that soaps are looking to tackle."
Andrew, 56 - who played Russell in BBC2 sitcom Butterflies with Nicholas Lyndhurst and Wendy Craig - joins the soap next month.
Corrie has featured transsexual character Hayley Cropper since 1998.
