    Casualty Spoilers 2nd March

    1. Ruby grows suspicious
Despite their shaky start, Iain has sparked up a candid connection with his colleague Ruby in recent weeks, and she’s actually the one who senses that something isn’t right with him before anyone else does.

When Iain doesn’t turn up to work, Ruby is unnerved by what she discovers next – so much so that she decides to investigate further. We're not going to reveal what happens after this, but Ruby does have a fight on her hands later on, as she struggles to convince the rest of the team that this was a suicide attempt.

    2. Iain's life hangs in the balance

We're not going to reveal who manages to find Iain, but by the by time he is brought into the ED, he's in a very bad way.

With the hospital already under huge pressure thanks to the sinister cyber attack, some further unpredictable, and very unfortunate, complications leave the paramedic’s life hanging by a very unstable thread...

    3. The cyber attack causes chaos
We already know that the show's due to air its much-anticipated crossover with Holby City when it returns next week and we can now confirm that Iain will play a vital role in the story.

Spoilers for the episode had confirmed that Connie would be left to save the life of a member of her own department amid all the drama of the cyber attack – which plunges Holby into blackout and disables most of the hospital’s automated monitoring equipment.

When Iain is rushed into the ED, his colleagues – led by Connie – face a tough battle to try and aid him with limited equipment and no real way of knowing what has happened to him. Prepare for a nail-biting two episodes as both teams come together in a desperate attempt to save the life of one of their own.

    4. Gem goes into denial
While the rest of the team are understandably rocked to learn of Iain's plight, his sister Gem was always going to be hit the hardest.

Completely oblivious to Iain’s struggles in the lead-up, Gem refuses to accept the reality of the situation as she watches her brother fight for his life – and even has a tense stand-off with a more astute Ruby.

But as Gem urges the medics to ignore Ruby, could she be doing Iain more harm than good in the process?

    5. Connie has some very big decisions to make

With the cyber attack causing countless problems, Connie is left to make some very difficult decisions as a result. Unable to follow normal procedure, Connie faces one of her biggest medical challenges to date as she prepares to operate on Iain – without concrete confirmation of what’s causing his condition.

She also faces the wrath of Holby City's Jac, who's hellbent on saving the life of her own friend and colleague, Sacha Levy. Which leads us onto the next point...

    6. Iain’s story collides with Sacha’s in Holby City

When news of the Casualty/Holby crossover was first confirmed, the show’s executive producer Simon Harper teased a “poignant thematic resonance between two regulars”.

Holby City viewers will already know that Sacha Levy has been on a mental health journey of his own in the last few years and his story will collide with Iain’s in the poignant scenes. But as to whether they both pull through, fans will just have to wait and see...

    7. But there could be light at the end of the tunnel

That said, there could still be a glimmer of hope after this – in Iain’s case, anyway. Casualty fans who have been fearing for Iain’s future over the last few weeks might be pleased to know that it doesn’t actually look like he’s going anywhere anytime soon.

That’s because Michael Stevenson – who plays him – appeared to still be filming on set in one of Charles Venn’s Instagram Stories yesterday (February 22), along with Jason Durr (David) and Ellen Thomas – who is due to return as Jacob’s mum Oma.

Given that Casualty films about four months in advance, this would suggest that Iain will be around for the foreseeable – but what does the future hold for him now?
