Max Walker (Jamie Davis) to guest in Holby City

Casualty's Max Walker will be crossing over to Holby City for a special storyline due to air later in the year.

Jamie Davis has reprised his role as popular porter Max, who bowed out of Casualty in January 2018.

Max will reappear in Holby City for one episode airing in December, although further details regarding what brings him back are currently under wraps.

However, Digital Spy understands that Max's return will just be in Holby City and there are no current plans for him to pop back to Casualty as well.

Max was last seen leaving Holby for a new life in America with his wife Zoe Hanna. Sunetra Sarker had bowed out as Zoe in 2016 but reprised her role for Max's exit, in order to give the on-off couple a happy ending.

Max's Holby comeback is part of new producer Jane Wallbank's commitment to increased crossovers between the shows.

Speaking to Digital Spy recently, Jane said: "The recent Casualty/Holby crossover was a huge achievement and everyone worked so hard. It's probably not viable to do anything on that scale for a few years yet, simply because of logistics.

"But there is increased and more complex character crossover between the two shows on quite a regular basis now."

Prior to his Casualty exit last year, Jamie had played Max since 2013.

Tanya Burr to guest in Holby City

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/hol...rr-guest-role/

Autumn is soon arriving, which means one thing for Holby City fans – a brand new trailer proving the medical drama will keep the momentum going following an explosive summer.

There's a lot to unpack from the preview clip, with one of the details revealing that digital influencer Tanya Burr will appear as a guest star.

Tanya, 30, rose to fame on Instagram and YouTube, having garnered 3 million and 3.5 million followers respectively on the social media platforms.

Although her storyline is being kept under wraps, we can see she'll be portraying a patient at the Holby hospital.

While being treated by Essie Harrison and Sacha Levy, the new character asks the pair: "How long have you two been together?" to which they chuckle while insisting: "We're not together."

Fans have been gunning for the will-they-won't-they couple to get back together for some time now, with Essie proving to be a lifeline to the doc throughout his battle with depression.

Could Tanya's patient act as a catalyst to Essie and Sacha growing closer once more? Time will tell as the new episodes drop over the coming weeks.

The weather is getting colder and the nights are drawing in, but rest assured, because it will be staying heated in Holby City this autumn.

After an explosive year of storylines, the BBC medical drama will show no signs of slowing down in the lead-up to Christmas. Here is your guide to all the biggest stories hitting your screens between now and December...

    1. Jac's big struggle

One character to keep a close eye on this autumn is fan favourite Jac, who is about to take centre stage in a huge mental health storyline. Jac has a very harrowing few months ahead, as she starts to buckle under the pressures of her personal and professional life.

Next week's episode will see Jac return to the hospital after some time away, keen to put a difficult few weeks behind her. However, when Jac gets a shocking bombshell from Emma's step-mum Stacey, her problems start to snowball – with devastating consequences.

    2. Elliot's return

Yep, Elliot Hope is heading back to Holby for the show's 1,000th episode on Bonfire Night – just when he and Jac need each other the most.

While Joseph Byrne made an appearance during the nascent stages of Jac's story, Elliot's return will come at the pinnacle and when she's at her most vulnerable.

Paul Bradley has reprised his role as Elliot, who was last seen on the show in 2015, for a five-episode guest stint – which will ostensibly see him return to see his old pal Jac.

But with Elliot keeping some big secret of his own, will he and Jac reach out to each other before it's too late?

    When: November 5

    3. Ric's life-or-death decision…

Following his life-changing diagnosis, Ric will find himself continuing to be caught between a rock and a hard place as he struggles to make a devastating decision.

After deciding to go ahead with the surgery – against Serena's advice – Ric is faced with some ghosts from his past who all force him to make a life-or-death choice.

Keep an eye out for this unique, unconventional and slightly eccentric episode hitting your screens later in the month…

    When: October 22

    4. … And Diane's return

As we've previously revealed, Ric's story will ultimately tie in with the return of the late Diane Lloyd – whose comeback story "goes beyond the realms of the hospital" and into very different territory for the show. (Trust us, it does).

Patricia Potter will be making a one-off appearance as Diane, who died in devastating circumstances in 2007, for the special episode that will play right into all of Ric's big life dilemmas – past, present and future.

    When: October 22

    5. Meet new neurosurgeon Max

Fans are about to meet no-nonsense newcomer Max McGerry– and it's fair to say she will be ruffling a few feathers upon her arrival.

With Hanssen away attending to family matters, top neurosurgeon Max will be stepping in as CEO in his absence and head-first into Ric's big medical dilemma.

Jo Martin has been cast as Max, who show producer Jane Wallbank has promised will be creating a host of drama with her "kick-**** style, lack of filter and big plans for the hospital". You can say that again!

    When: October 15

    6. Serena's new challenge

Serena will be back on our screens next Tuesday, after Catherine Russell took a short break from filming, and her much-anticipated return will come with plenty of fresh challenges.

Serena is understandably devastated to hear of Ric's prognosis, but her anguish soon turns to anger when she learns the team's new recruit Max is encouraging the surgeon to have the operation.

While Max is adamant she can remove Ric's tumour without any major complications, Serena is less sure – and wants the surgeon to accept his fate and enjoy his life as it is.

With their very different approaches to medicine, are the two women going to be friends or enemies?

    When: October 15

    7. Lofty's discovery

He's spent the last few months in the dark over his impending fatherhood, but Lofty's life is about to be turned upside down as he discovers the truth.

When Helen is brought back into the hospital after an accident, it doesn't take Lofty long to realise that she's heavily pregnant with his baby.

Ever the gent, Lofty vows to stand by Helen and raise the child together, but can he forgive his husband Dom for keeping him in the dark?

    When: October 22

    8. Casualty's Max is back

Holby bosses have promised more Casualty crossovers and they will be delivering, with Casualty's Max Walker popping up in Holby towards the end of the autumn.

Jamie Davis has reprised his role as Max, who left Casualty in January 2018, for a special episode – although further details about what exactly brings him back to Holby are currently under wraps. If we were to hedge our bets though, we reckon it could be something to do with our next spoiler...

    When: TBC

    9. More drama in Dofty land

Dofty fans better hold on tight as they are in for a bumpy ride over the next few months. After a few hiccups following Lofty's aforementioned baby discovery, the popular pair will decide to reaffirm their commitment to each other by renewing their vows. Aww, lovely, right?

Well, we wouldn't get too excited as we've heard whispers of a dark cloud turning their sky grey at the end of the year.

    When: TBC

    10. Essie's baby dilemma

Having spent the last few weeks looking after baby Isla, Essie's baby drama is going to grow even more complicated over the coming months.

Although Isla's mum Frankie briefly reappears next week, Essie is still left carrying the baby by the end of the episode. And she'll be weaving a very tangled web as the story continues.

Fans will have to stay tuned to see whether her expedient lies are exposed, but Kaye Wragg – who plays Essie – isn't hopeful for a happy ending.

    When: October

    11. Cameron is haunted by old ghosts

Cameron has been the one to watch over the last few months, but his problems are about to come to a frightening head – and we don't just mean because it's Halloween.

Cameron recently made a controversial move to protect his best friend Chloe, but he will find his actions repeatedly coming back to haunt him in the near future.

In a big episode at the end of the month, Cameron realises that he has made a fatal oversight with the Grim Reaper and it soon becomes clear that he is being haunted by his own ghosts….

    When: October 28

    12. Essie and Sacha revisited?

He's been helping to keep Essie's big baby secret safe, but could Sacha's feelings for the nurse run deeper than friendship?

That will be the big question over the next few weeks, and fans won't be the only ones asking it, either. Could Essie and Sacha make a proper go of things this time? Kaye Wragg did promise us something "beautiful" was on the horizon after all...

    When: November

Returning Holby City actor Paul Bradley has confirmed there will be a special Christmas episode dealing with the Jac Naylor storyline.

Bradley, who played Elliot Hope on the BBC One medical soap before leaving in 2015, was revealed to be returning to Holby ahead of its 20th anniversary.

And, speaking recently, he divulged that there will be a "quite Christmassy" episode titled 'Three Wise Men', which sees the people closest to Jac (Rosie Marcel) rally around her in her time of need. Aww.

"[Elliot and Jac] are both very good at concealing what is upsetting them, so I think they recognise that and try to help each other," he told Inside Soap.

"There is an episode towards the end of the year that is quite Christmassy called 'Three Wise Men' – referring to Elliot, Sacha and Fletch, the closest people to Jac."

The reveal comes as Jac's mental health starts to really deteriorate following the news that Stacey (Emily Bowker) now wants full custody of Jac's daughter Emma, as she and Jonny prepare to move to Edinburgh.

Can a visit from Elliot inspire her to keep faith and seek help? We sure hope so.

As for Bradley, the actor admitted that he isn't ruling out another return to Holby in the future.

"I'm happy that I left Elliot when I did, though coming back has made me think that it would be nice to go back again," he said.

His only demand for his current comeback? "I said, 'Please don't kill me off!'"

Holby City to air stillbirth storyline as Helen and Lofty lose their baby

Holby City is set to bring awareness to stillbirths with an upcoming storyline.

Lofty (Lee Mead) is expecting a child with Helen (Verity Marshall), a woman with whom he had a fling on holiday. Her pregnancy was originally kept from Lofty when his husband Dom (David Ames) found out first, but the truth finally came out last month.

An episode airing later this month will see Lofty, Dom and Helen go through the heartbreak of losing their baby, setting off a new storyline for the trio as they process the grief.

Holby City's writing team worked with both bereavement and medical specialists to ensure that the stillbirth and its after-effects on the parents are depicted accurately on-screen.

"Holby City doesn't shy away from covering difficult and sometimes, as in this case, very sad issues which can resonate with the audience," executive producer Simon Harper said today (November 12).

"The loss of the baby is terrible for Helen, and we also felt that the father's perspective is traditionally perhaps overlooked. Lofty and Dom's relationship gives us the chance to explore that. Lee, David and Verity all give beautifully pitched performances in a heart-breaking episode."

Lee Mead added that he is honoured to be bringing awareness to such an important issue, saying: "After knowing people close to me who have sadly been through a similar experience, I think it's really important and brave for Holby City to shine a light on the reality that some families have to face. I'm really proud to have been a part of it.”

Holby City airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC One, with these stillbirth storyline scenes premiering later in November.
