    Monday 24 Dec

Leo confides in Paul about Delaney’s blackmail. Leo doesn’t want to tell Terese about it, especially not at Christmas. Instead, they plan to butter Delaney up with hotel freebies, then Leo will be in a better position to reason with her and get her to leave town quietly.

When Terese later rattles Delaney’s confidence, Delaney confronts Paul about their attempt to butter her up and drops a bombshell.

Meanwhile, the community knuckles down to organise the last-minute Christmas concert. Bea, Elly and Susan are not thrilled when Liz unexpectedly arrives. Elly anticipates some grief over Liz not being invited to her engagement party, but Liz claims she’s reinvented herself after a recent stay at a retreat and tells Susan she’s here to keep the family going in the wake of Susan’s actions against Finn.

When Liz later clocks Elly and Chloe in an intriguing conversation, she does some snooping. Liz finds the letter Chloe wrote for Elly and proceeds to read it. Chloe is stunned when Liz turns up at her door, giving her a serve about the damage and hurt she’ll cause if she pursues Elly. She claims the best thing Chloe can do is tear up the letter, forget her feelings, and stay away from Elly. Liz’s words leave Chloe gutted.

Paul has a reckoning with a dead relative – his father Jim Robinson.

Meanwhile, Shane is under the impression that Dipi tossed out the tarot cards, but we discover Dipi has kept them. She reveals to Liz that two past readings accurately predicted the deaths of two people close to her. Encouraged by Liz, Dipi does a reading and the same death card combination comes up. Dipi is sure tragedy lies ahead for someone.

Elsewhere, Christmas morning sees Susan in a reflective mood and she’s drawn to visit comatose Finn in hospital. She later confesses to Toadie that he’s been on her mind and she feels guilty.

Toadie reminds Susan that Finn is to blame for his own fate. Susan takes this on board. However, a shock awaits her when she returns home and discovers a gift on the doorstep. The mystery contents alarm her.

Also today, Bea is nervous about performing at the concert and Liz makes her anxiety even worse by reminding her about a childhood performance she bungled. Bea pulls out of the concert, throwing everyone into a spin. Ned intervenes and helps Bea to admit that a part of her is looking for an excuse to bail because of her own nerves.

Finally, Toadie is determined to bring the community together with the concert, Gary is feeling insecure about the status of his relationship with Amy, while Xanthe is taken aback when she gets a letter from Ben revealing that he misses her.

Worried to see Paul so defeated, Leo tries to offer practical solutions to his dilemma, but he rejects them. He’s now sure that Delaney means business and the only option is to give her everything she wants. Leo feels the burden, now having his father’s fate and his own in his hands.

Leo searches desperately for another way out, but Delaney holds firm – she wants Terese out of the picture. Trapped, Leo makes a heartbreaking choice.

Meanwhile, Susan and Liz discuss a mysterious photo album left on the Kennedy front doorstep – filled with pictures of Finn. Susan decides to take the album to the police the next morning and asks Liz to keep it to herself, afraid of upsetting Bea and Elly for no reason.

The next day, Liz tries to make a connection with Bea, telling her that she was impressed by how much her singing has improved, but Bea doesn’t want to discuss her music. Desperate to connect with Bea, Liz deliberately plays on her vulnerability by telling her about the creepy ‘gift’. A panicked Bea allows her mum to comfort her, much to Susan’s irritation.

Susan’s confusion over the photo album grows when Xanthe arrives on the doorstep, having found an envelope on the path – it seems it was attached to the gift but blew away. The card contains contact details of someone who wants to speak to Susan about Finn. Susan is conflicted but, wanting answers, she makes arrangements to meet the gift-giver. Is she walking into peril?

Elsewhere, the Sharma-Rebecchis have been looking after Val's dog Reg, but she’s clashing with Clancy and they need a longer-term solution while they track down Val’s next of kin. Taking note of how much Aaron loves playing with Reg, David asks Mark to consider allowing them to adopt her. Mark is wary of allowing a pet into his fastidious home. But David urges him to accept, arguing how happy it would make Aaron. Mark reluctantly concedes.

Stunned over her break up with Leo, Terese remains in a state of disbelief. Leo’s loved ones, including David, are also baffled by his decision. For David’s own safety, Leo keeps up the ruse that this is what he wants. Leo moves into the Penthouse and Paul is glad to have him back, albeit guilty to have indirectly caused the break-up.

Delaney is frustrated on Leo’s fixation with Terese and steps up her game by getting physical with him. But Leo is still torn over his decision and needs time.

When Delaney witnesses a moment of yearning between Leo and Terese, she works to drive another wedge between them by orchestrating for herself and Leo to be “caught” in a compromising situation, unbuttoning her blouse and pouncing on Leo in the lift, just as the doors open with Terese waiting outside. Terese is stung and humiliated by the display.

Meanwhile, returning from his trip to visit Holly, Karl is horrified to learn about the mysterious photo album Susan found on the doorstep, not to mention the fact that she’s agreed to meet with Shaun, the associate of Finn’s who gave it to her. Susan is determined to get answers and can’t be dissuaded.

Karl accompanies her to the meeting, where they learn that Shaun is Finn’s younger half-brother. Finn was a good-hearted young man, who wanted to change the world for the better, despite his own difficult upbringing and being rejected by his mother. The two brothers backpacked in South America when they were younger, but the adventure took a shocking turn when they were kidnapped and held hostage.

Their mother and Shaun’s father paid for Shaun’s release but, blaming Finn for the predicament, they refused to bail him out. He was held for six months and no-one knows what torments he endured. Shaun isn’t asking for forgiveness for Finn, he just wanted Susan and Karl to know what shaped him. Karl is left unimpressed, while Bea thinks for all they know the whole story could be a lie. But it’s clear Susan is affected by Finn’s story.

Having seen Leo and Delaney seemingly in the throes of passion, Terese is hurt and embarrassed so keeps her distance from them both. However, not everything is rosy between the new couple. Realising Delaney set up the run-in with Terese to deter her from trying to win him back, Leo vents to his dad and Paul reassures him that he’s trying to get dirt on Delaney.

Having no option but to wait, Leo submits to Delaney. Discussing Leo’s actions with Ned, Terese is further crushed to hear that even before Leo broke up with her, he told Ned that he and Delaney shared a connection back in Sydney and would have been together if she’d been older. It’s seeming confirmation that Leo’s new romance could be real. Heartbroken, Terese has no choice but to accept her relationship with Leo is over.

Meanwhile, now under pressure to organise their big day, Mark and Elly ask Chloe to help as wedding planner. Despite still secretly pining for Elly, Chloe reluctantly agrees. But the task weighs on her and she’s deeply uncomfortable when Elly reads Chloe the vows she’s working on for Mark. Chloe manages to hide her true feelings from Elly.

Elsewhere, Xanthe’s university offer arrives and she’s thrown by the news: it turns out she didn’t score high enough to get into the Melbourne campus, but has been offered a place at the Toowoomba campus. She never planned to move interstate and isn’t sure how she feels about the idea.

Piper buoys Xanthe and despite the sadness of potentially saying goodbye to her beloved friends and family, Xanthe starts to seriously consider the new adventure... until living costs hit home. Xanthe starts to lose hope. Perhaps she won’t be able to study medicine next year after all.
