Following some speculations about her return, Courtney Miller is officially going back to Home and Away as Bella Nixon amidst fresh heartache for Nikau Parata.

With Bella on her way back to Summer Bay, it looks as though the two exes will have some unfinished business to discuss.

Things ended on a sour note for the former lovebirds last year when Nikau suddenly broke up with Bella shortly after she moved to New York.

Now a successful photographer in the US, Bella had no idea Nikau initiated the split to protect her.

The character, played by Kawakawa Fox-Reo, and his uncle Tane were being threatened by the bikies at the time, so he decided to cut ties with Bella to prevent her from going back to Australia.

"Bella and Nikau now live in two worlds," Nixon told TV Week. "New York is very different to the feel of Summer Bay. Nikau is taken aback by her return ? as much has happened for both of them."

Bella may be back to meet Ziggy's daughter Izzy, but she can't escape running into Nikau. In upcoming scenes, the two go for coffee, with Nikau telling Bella the truth about their breakup.

She's hurt to learn he hasn't called her once he was safe, but they agree to put their romance behind them. However, the two exes can't help but slip back into the old, familiar ways, leaving fans hopeful for a reunion, particularly as Fox-Reo has been confirmed to exit the Aussie soap.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.

Home and Away aired Bella Nixon's return storyline on Australian screens on Thursday (February 23).

Courtney Miller filmed a brief return stint as Bella late last year, reprising the role after a few months away.

The show's latest episodes on Channel 7 in Australia saw Bella arrive back in Summer Bay while on a break from work commitments.

Bella has been focusing on her photography career in New York, but found time to come back for five days in-between assignments.

The popular character chose to return following the news that Ziggy Astoni and Dean Thompson had welcomed a baby girl, Izzy, together.

When quizzed over her intentions, Bella insisted that she was only interested in catching up with her friends and didn't care about bumping into her ex-boyfriend Nikau Parata.

Dean suspected that this wasn't really the case, although Bella continued to put on a brave face when she inevitably crossed paths with Nikau.

Reflecting on how Nikau dumped her following her departure for New York, Bella told him: "You breaking up with me was possibly the best thing that could have happened. So we're cool."
