    Exclamation Emmerdale Spoilers 2019

Emmerdale is lining up a special episode for International Women's Day, featuring a female-only cast.

The show's new boss Jane Hudson revealed the ground-breaking news at an Emmerdale press event yesterday (October 2), after being appointed the top role earlier this year.

Jane took over the role of executive producer following Iain MacLeod's move to Coronation Street and is now responsible for the future editorial and creative direction of the show.

Meanwhile, Emmerdale's former assistant producer Kate Brooks and series script producer Laura Shaw will now share the title of producer. The pair produce blocks of episodes on a rotational basis and take responsibility for the day-to-day running of Emmerdale.

Speaking about her plans for the episode, Jane revealed that not only would it feature an all-female cast, but it would be produced, directed and written by women.

Jane said: "We're doing something rather special on March 8, International Women's Day, now we've got two female producers and a female executive producer – which is the first time a soap has had an all-female team.

"We are going to have an episode that is produced by a female, directed by a female and written by a female. The entire cast will be female including all the background artists and we will have almost an entire female crew."

She joked: "What they don't realise is that we'll be giving some of the men the traditional female roles for the day so we'll all be bringing our kids in for them to look after. We're really excited to be doing it, to be recognising IWD and do our bit for it."

Emmerdale will air the special episode on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Now we've got the New Year's storylines out of the way, it's time to take a look at what we can expect from Emmerdale looking forward.

In a video shared on social media, producers Kate Brooks and Laura Shaw teased some of the upcoming plots for our favourite characters.

Unsurprisingly, the Dingles are going to face plenty of drama this year, with a lot revolving around Lydia Hart and her past.

The family could also expand, as the duo tease the "pitter-patter of tiny footsteps" on the horizon for Aaron and Robert Sugden. Cue screams of joy from Robron fans up and down the country.

In 2019, we'll see the explosions and ramifications of the controversial but important Jacob Gallagher and Maya Stepney storyline, and how it will affect multiple people in the village, especially David.

Fan-favourites Eric Pollard and Faith will also be tested as a couple, as it was teased that Faith might "have her head turned by a new man in the village".

Harriet Finch is going to have a lot to deal with throughout the year as she tries to atone for past mistakes which will come into the present. Meanwhile, Dawn will have a romance with an "unlikely" regular.

We also saw a short clip of Moira Barton telling Cain that she is "done". Something makes us feel that, with those two, the drama will never be done.

Emmerdale has just released a brand new trailer for the summer, giving us a look at some of the drama that has been previously teased – and a full-blown wild west theme!

The village is being transformed into the cheerily-titled 'Emmerdeadsville' for a murder mystery party, but in typical soap fashion, it is probably going to end in a real death.

We already know that Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh), Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), Ellis Chapman (Asan N'Jie), Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) are all going to have major storylines, and this trailer gives us a good look at what to expect.

Robert Sugden actor Ryan Hawley has confirmed he will be leaving the soap, and from what we see here it looks like he is either going to kill rapist Lee Posner or die trying.

Tracy also looks to be in considerable danger as she gets caught up in the explosion at the Sharmas' factory.

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw teased that: "We have Sharma drama as a fire rips through the factory. It's caused by two of our villagers who are up to no good behind Jai and Rishi's backs.

"Will Tracy get out in time? It's safe to say there are heartbreaking scenes ahead for the villagers, and Tracy's life will never be the same again."
