EastEnders has revealed a first look at Mel Owen's ex-husband Ray Kelly making his mark in Walford.

Irish actor Sean Mahon has been cast in the role of Ray, who makes his first appearance on Albert Square in early September.

Just when things are looking up for Mel's new relationship with Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), there's trouble on the horizon when Ray turns up unexpectedly.

Jack is thrown by the arrival of Mel's charming ex, who's seen introducing himself in these first look spoiler pictures. But is Jack right to be worried? What will Ray's arrival mean for him and Mel?

When EastEnders announced Ray's arrival a few weeks ago, the show described him as a serial risk-taker and expert liar, who has the gift of the gab when it comes to getting what he wants.

Soap insiders have warned that the local residents shouldn't be taken in by his charming and slick exterior, as he's a man who thrives on danger and can't be trusted. But how long will it take for everyone to realise that?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Friday, September 7 at 8pm on BBC One.

Monday

Stuart's evil games lead to a shock shooting
Who'll be injured?

The Carters feel betrayed by Halfway when Stuart turns up and reveals that his brother paid him a secret visit last week. Stuart also has another bombshell for Mick which causes further shockwaves.

Not long afterwards, Mick turns up to confront Stuart but is baffled to find that Stuart has laid out some tools for him. Stuart reveals that he wants Mick to take his revenge and tries to goad him – could Mick be tempted as tempers rise?

At the same time, there's another setback for the Carters when they learn that Dylan has retracted his statement following intimidation from Stuart. A sympathetic Tina agrees to let Dylan stay at The Vic that night.

As a tense day in Walford comes to a head, Stuart lies in wait at the pub and it's not long before a gunshot rings around the Square. Who has been shot and will they pull through?

Meanwhile, Jack is given food for thought when Amy questions him on when he's going to marry Mel. After visiting Ronnie's grave, Jack broaches the idea with both Hunter and Max. However, could Hunter ruin everything when he makes a secret call and also lets slip to Mel about what's going on?

Elsewhere, Dennis gets another job from Stuart and ends up hiding something for him.


Tuesday

Albert Square is in shock after the shooting
Will the police make an arrest?


There's panic at the Queen Vic after the shooting.

An ambulance arrives to deal with the situation, while the police also turn up to investigate what's happened.

Meanwhile, Dennis panics after hearing the gunshot and asks Sharon to sit with him.

Elsewhere, Keanu spots someone acting suspiciously by the canal.

Also today, just as Jack asks Mel to marry him and waits for her response, Mel's ex-husband Ray turns up in Walford.


Thursday

Keanu shares his big discovery with Sharon
Will she take control?

Keanu is suspicious after what he saw at the canal.

Sharon is shocked when Keanu fills her in, but she warns him not to tell the police as she'll find out what's going on for herself.

Meanwhile, the police try to find out who was responsible for the shooting.

Elsewhere, Mel is shocked by the sudden arrival of Ray, who has turned up thanks to Hunter. Mel's obvious panic concerns Jack, but she covers the reason why by insisting that she's just worried about how Hunter will feel about Ray being around. Later, Mel calls Ray.


Friday

A shock arrest is made over the shooting
Who do the police have in their sights?

News spreads around the Square about the incident at The Vic, leaving the residents keen to find out who was responsible.

Soon enough, DI Arthurs arrives to make a shock arrest.

Meanwhile, Jack wants to salvage things with Mel after his disastrous proposal. At the same time, Ray arranges a lunch with Mel and Hunter, but surprisingly invites Jack too. What is he up to?

Elsewhere, Keanu promises Sharon that he'll keep quiet about what he saw at the canal. However, Sharon also gives Keanu a wad of cash and claims that Phil owes him, which leaves Keanu feeling unsettled. Later, it's Sharon's turn to be surprised when the money is posted back through her letterbox.
