    Exclamation Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths)

EastEnders is lining up more trouble for the Taylor family next month with the arrival of a new face on Albert Square.

Holby City star Roger Griffiths is set to star in a handful of episodes in March in the role of Mitch Baker, with his arrival in Walford set to impact massively on Karen and the Taylors.

Mitch will make his first appearance when he turns up at The Arches and in his first episode, it's revealed that Mitch Baker is Keegan Baker's (Zack Morris) dad and Karen's (Lorraine Stanley) ex-boyfriend, which begs the question of why he happens to be in Walford in the first place.

While he won't be staying in the Square long, it's clear he has history with the Taylors and his shifty behaviour during his time on the soap is sure to raise viewers' suspicions about the real motives behind his return.

"The Taylors are an established tight-knit family on the Square, so coming in as Mitch – the wild card – meant I had to hit the ground running," Roger said of his new role.

"I had a brilliant time and the actors who make up the Taylor family made me feel at home instantly. It was love at first sight."

Alongside his recurring role as Harvey Tyson on Holby City back in 2007, Roger has also had roles in Casualty, Doctors and Doctor Who too, appearing as Commander Kess in 2008 episode 'Planet of the Ood'.

It's not the first time he's appeared on EastEnders either, having previously starred as Detective Inspector Christopher Riddick between 2004 and 2005, with his last appearance being when Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) was arrested for the murder of her husband Den (Leslie Grantham).

Roger's first appearance as Mitch will air on Monday, March 12.

Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) could be set to suspect Gray Atkins (Toby Alexander-Smith) of murder in EastEnders as he realises that Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) had been trying to escape her marriage in the days leading up to her tragic death. Fans know that evil Gray was responsible for Chantelle being killed as the abuser discovered that she was trying to leave him. As Gray is questioned by the police, Mitch discovers from Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol) that he had been funding Chantelle so that she could take the kids away from Gray. When they then discuss the possibility of whether Gray is capable of murder, Mitch is left deeply troubled as he wonders whether Gray killed Chantelle during a struggle as she tried to flee. Roger said of the storyline: ?He?s in disbelief and in denial because he can?t believe that she?s dead. The first thing that he asks is how did it happen? And when he asks that question more than three times and nobody?s answering in any clear way, that?s when it starts to bite at him.
Then he hears the whispers. Mitch has had a run in with Gray before, and he?s not going to charge in this time like a bull in a china shop. Because he?s in turmoil in his relationship with Karen as well, he?s trying to mend that. He?s trying to balance so many things. If he messes up one, he?ll lose the other. If he goes too hard on Gray with the accusations, the balance with Karen will flip.? It?s as he explores these questions that Kheerat comes onto his radar ? and Kheerat has no qualms in believing that Gray is not innocent.
Roger mused: ?Firstly he wants to know ? who is this man? He?s telling Mitch that his daughter was unfaithful to her husband? That?s the first shock. And then he thinks ? why is he telling me this, is he covering up himself? Is he trying to protect himself? It?s big news. He?s saying that Gray killed Chantelle. And Mitch doesn?t like Gray. So when he hears that he has to be very careful and manage his emotions because he?s made mistakes before, he?s accused Gray of certain things and Gray has covered it up so Mitch ends up looking completely out of order. ?But this is a big one and he doesn?t want that to happen again. He?s got to be sure. If he takes the law into his own hands he could end up in prison himself, so he?s not going to do that, he wants to make sure that if he?s going to present anything it?s going to be right.?
